This position if for a student engineering co-op/intern in a highly dynamic, fast paced, but flexible work environment on the Special Mission Military Platform Systems Team within the Special Mission & Civil Systems (SMACS) department of Military Avionics & Helicopters Directive at Collins Aerospace.  The SMACS department is a dynamic organization focused on leveraging existing and developing new technologies to provide innovative systems solutions to US/International Fixed Wing customers. 

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run May/June- December  (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

What YOU will do:

  • You will perform Platform Systems Engineering (PSE) while interfacing with business development, program/technical management, software/hardware/product-line engineers and customers.

  • You will apply your expertise in human/machine interfaces, weapon systems, sensor systems, communication, navigation and more to develop robust solutions for aircraft systems.

  • You will design system solutions in a clean-sheet environment as well as adding functionality to existing legacy systems – pushing the boundaries of technology - ensuring the integration of Collins Aerospace products meet the needs to perform the missions of our military users/customers.

  • You will ensure that the Collins Management System (CMS) and the Collins Aerospace Technical Consistent Process (TCP) are applied throughout all phases of systems product development including program pursuit and capture, requirements capture and analysis, system architecture design and system/subsystem integration/verification/validation.

  • You will play a crucial role in the development of operational system cockpits for US/International Fixed Wing Military programs/customers.

Qualifications You must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required, as this position involves work that is regulated by U.S. Defense Agencies.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Must have the desire to participate on a results-oriented engineering team, be highly motivated, and be self directed.

  • Strong teamwork orientation is a must.

  • Candidate must be well organized and able to communicate effectively (verbally and written) with team members, leadership, and customers.

  • Understanding of basic aircraft/cockpit instrumentation and operation is highly desirable.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
