Raytheon is currently seeking a Principal Test Development Engineer to join the Sensor Test Solutions (STS) department within Test Equipment Engineering (TEE). This is an excellent position for engineers with a background in digital, analog, RF, or power test equipment design and a desire to apply those skills to developing, building, and integrating advanced test platforms and architectures.

You will be joining a diverse project team supporting the development of test solutions for RADAR, SONAR, communication, missile, combat control systems, subsystems and components for various programs within Raytheon. These products involve Analog, RF, Microwave, Acoustic, High Power, and Digital Electronic technologies along with embedded software and firmware, signal processing, and VHDL designs. STS Engineers are involved from the beginning of a test solution design process through the verification and final system sell-off.

Typical test solutions include simulation/stimulation and data acquisition test capabilities for verifying a product’s functional performance. These capabilities may encompass Hardware-In-the-Loop simulators, custom Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), Commercial ATE, High Power, Mixed-Signal, Digital and Environmental Stress Screening systems, mechanical holding fixtures, adapters, and interface cabling and harnessing. 

This is an onsite role in Tewksbury, MA.

What You Will Do

  • Work with internal and external partners on the design and deployment of complex factory test systems
  • Lead development of test hardware, software, and/or firmware through its development cycle, from requirements definition through deployment at manufacturing or customer facilities. These test capabilities may span disciplines (Power, RF, Analog, Digital) and domains (hardware, software, firmware).
  • Work with Hardware Design and Operations teams early in development cycle to identify capability and capacity needs for manufacturing test and ensure smooth deployment to manufacturing facilities
  • Actively identify test readiness issues and optimizations through the development lifecycle
  • Lead medium-to-large sized teams to meet project budget, schedule, and performance commitments
  • Provide technical leadership to employees in support of their specific work assignments
  • Engage in personal technical growth and encourage technical growth in peers and junior engineers
  • Prepare and clearly present your team’s work product to Functional and Program Leadership
  • Understand and report financial & earned value status for monthly reporting cycle
  • Proactively manage and mitigate Risks and Opportunities
  • Support Manufacturing operations, including on-site troubleshooting and debugging, both independently and in collaboration with design engineering teams
  • Contribute to cost, schedule, and technical solutions for bid and proposal development

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight (8) years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in an engineering design and development environment with 4+ years direct experience with Test Equipment design and development tasks
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with National Instruments’ TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, and/or LabVIEW
  • Digital, and/or Analog, and/or RF, and/or power supply test hardware design experience
  • Use of Commercial Test and Measurement Equipment
  • VXI/VME/MXI/PXI/CompactPCI Application Development
  • CMMI and 6 Sigma Experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with VHDL a plus
  • Software applications / programming skills a plus

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
