Our employees are not only part of history, they’re making history. Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is looking for a Software Engineer based out of Manhattan Beach, CA. Our Team works on state-of-the-art Mission Planning systems. This position is for our Restricted A effort, which provides software development and engineering product releases as well as technical and training support.    The program is managed across several contracts with the efforts ranging from new development of micro-services within a service-oriented architecture to maintenance of existing windows application-based baselines that have transitioned to virtual deployments to an on-prem cloud environment. All work must be performed on-site in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in the software development cycle including design, implementation and delivery of build/test/release
  • Develop Java based software solutions
  • Work with object-oriented programming, design patterns, JMS, Web Services, XML and related technologies
  • Collaborate with team members on a regular basis
  • Support team in completing necessary software on schedule
  • Complete work independently and as a part of an Agile team
  • Solve complex problems through innovative and creative solutions
  • Collaborate with software designers and/or software engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of software systems
  • Regularly demonstrate progress to customers

Basic Qualifications for a Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR 0 years of experience with a Master’s degree in STEM; OR 6 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
  • Intermediate experience with object-oriented programming, using C++, C# and/or Java, although this is primarily a Java based role.
  • Understanding of core IT competencies (Networking, Servers, DBs, Apps, certs)
  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Experience with software integration and testing
  • Data-minded, detail-oriented, communicative, willing to learn
  • Server/Client Software installation experience

Preferred Qualifications for a Software Engineer:

  • Experience with Java microservices, Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications, threading, intermediate object-oriented programming, design patterns, Data Distribution Service (DDS) messaging, web technologies, Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Experience with Mission Planning applications
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite: Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Crucible/Fish-eye

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience OR 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree in STEM; OR 6 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
  • Advanced experience with object-oriented programming, using C++, C# and/or Java, although this is primarily a Java based role.
  • Understanding of core IT competencies (Networking, Servers, DBs, Apps, certs)
  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Experience with software integration and testing
  • Data-minded, detail-oriented, communicative, willing to learn
  • Server/Client Software installation experience

Preferred Qualifications for a Principal Software Engineer:

  • Experience with Java microservices, Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications, threading, intermediate object-oriented programming, design patterns, Data Distribution Service (DDS) messaging, web technologies, Unified Modeling Language (UML), database essentials and SQL/NoSQL
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and implement various Design Patterns
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with Ansible

Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800

Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
