We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

The Manufacturing Engineering team at Raytheon Optics Manufacturing Center in Richardson, TX, plays a pivotal role in enhancing Raytheon’s competitive edge in optical components, assemblies, and systems. Our primary responsibility is to oversee all engineering operations and guide the organization towards delivering high-quality products within schedule, at or under budget, and in a safe working environment.

We achieve this by fostering collaboration with customers, program management, and business leadership to accurately identify and address business requirements. Our focus lies in empowering the factory to seamlessly meet these requirements by proactively anticipating future business needs, developing pertinent technologies and expertise, and integrating concurrent engineering during product conception and design phases to enhance producibility.

Currently, an exciting opportunity awaits within the Manufacturing Engineering team for a Thin Film Coating Engineer.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, develop, and optimize optical thin-film coatings through simulation, modeling, and product evaluation.
  • Provide day-to-day production support for thin film coating operations, collaborating closely with fellow engineers and technicians to resolve technical issues.
  • Train and support thin-film coating personnel to ensure high-quality and efficient operations.
  • Plan the sequence of operations for thin-film coating and test processes to maximize efficiency and quality.
  • Determine, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing manufacturing data and implementing process improvements for cost, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Develop and implement optical metrology testing methods, including spectrophotometry, interferometry, VASE photometry, absorption, Nomarski inspection, laser damage testing, and SEM.
  • Analyze product failures to determine root causes and recommend/implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Equipment Engineering to diagnose equipment failures and develop/implement systematic process control parameters.
  • Lead or participate in the validation of thin-film coating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Provide estimates for quotes and work closely with customers in the pre-quote phase to establish producible specifications.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of optics cleaning processes to enhance product quality and performance.

Qualifications You Must Have:
