About the job

We believe that the ads-based business model is the lifeblood of the Internet. It funds the free content we see and read, connects users to the products and services they want and need, and provides the fuel to innovate, investigate, disrupt and entertain. We also believe that the future of digital advertising must evolve to prioritize user privacy.

As a Manager, Government Affairs and Public Policy Knowledge and Information Products team, you will design and implement a proactive public policy strategy for Google’s Ads businesses to advance user privacy, the benefits of personalization, and the promise of privacy-enhancing technologies.

In this role, you will bring a European and Global view of the public policy issues impacting digital advertising, especially in the areas of data and data protection. Through managing high-impact, and high-visibility projects, you will be able to deepen your knowledge of our products, policies, and core principles. You will also work on project management and build cross-functional relationships. You will collaborate closely with your teammates working on issues related to Ads products and personalization. You understand that you serve a critical role as an advisor to our product teams. You work to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception/direction, and to share our product perspectives with external influencers to inform their perception.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities
  • Work with relevant Government Affairs and Public Policy and regional teams to track/advise your team and executives on high-priority global regulatory trends with a focus in Europe.
  • Engage directly with policymakers and key opinion formers to shape public and political dialogue.
  • Work with Product and cross-functional teams on key product features/integrations to maximize impact with public policy, mitigate potential risks, and implement strategies in support of external engagements.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders to shape Google’s overall position on key policy topics, with a focus on ads and privacy, while managing the creation of written and visual materials advocating these positions.
  • Collaborate on the creation/management of a network of key stakeholders with a focus in Europe, and influence relationships to shape a positive policy and regulatory environment and maintain an open Internet.
