  • Infrastructure & Enterprise Engineer I

    This position participates as a key member of Site Reliability Operations, responsible for 24x7 operational support of eCommerce sites and corporate infrastructure. This position provides hardware, software, and application-level support, including Major Incident response, troubleshooting, code releases and remediation of production issues. The Operations Engineer II should possess a skillset and mindset for identifying and building solutions, often on their own, by using and improving on internally owned tools/processes or crafting new ones.

    As a Operations Engineer I, much of your daily responsibilities handle live-site and corporate environment investigations of our enterprise infrastructure. This includes on premise Windows and Linux servers and network devices, as well as Cloud environments.

    What you will do:

    • Support all aspects of daily operational activities, including outage detection and impact assessment, second level triage based on response runbooks, and deep dive technical analysis into failure modes.

    • Provide troubleshooting expertise to large and complex environments supporting Expedia Group. platforms, requiring the ability to learn and understand highly complex environments in a dynamic eCommerce environment.

    • Provide primary support to SRO incident managers during outages in the form of incident declaration, impact assessment, external team engagement and key metric identification to help diagnose failure mode.

    • Perform 2nd tier triage tasks to live site impacting incidents such as service redeploys and regional failovers in AWS.

    • Assist in creation of internal tool and process improvements, using automation and scripting skills to support broader Orchestration effort of manual activities.

    • Identify and provide support for global dependencies such as domain membership and trusts, DNS requirements, and external dependencies.

    • Quickly and effectively learns new systems to rapidly identify potential solutions to resolve and prevent future service interruptions.

    • Independently drive complicated system related issues to resolution across multiple services and groups with little or no supervision.

    • Summarizes key elements of a technical problem and assigns cases to internal and external partners as necessary.

    • Provide drafting and review of technical documentation and Trouble Shooting Guides for first/second level personnel.

    Who you are:

    • Experience working in high pressure, dynamic, 24x7 environments

    • Overall 1-3 Years of experience.

    • Understanding of web application platforms such as IIS, Apache and Tomcat and confirmed experience administrating them at an enterprise level.

    • Experience managing resources in AWS through both console and other management tools, including identifying / terminating degraded resources and other triage methods.

    • Validated ability to troubleshoot large, complex systems with an eCommerce emphasis

    • Deep understanding in support of Microsoft Server OS versions, Linux Operating systems, as well as Cisco and other Network OS types.

    • Strong knowledge in networking technologies.

    • Medium level scripting skills in languages with a focus on automation and orchestration of operational support activities.

    • Deep understanding of Load Balancer configurations and utilization

    • Application Support and Deployment experience using tools such as Puppet, SCCM and other tools.

    • Experience with monitoring fundamentals such as SNMP, including applications like Cacti, Grafana,Splunk and Graphite to visualize performance data.

    • Effectively communicates technical issues in a non-technical manner and engage with a globally distributed team of technically diverse individuals.

    • Well versed in internet architectures, including web, application, and database components such as Apache, memcache, MySQL

    • Domain Name Service - Conceptual understanding and practical knowledge (WINS and Bind)

    • 5+ years’ experience in multiple required disciplines

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent demonstrated IT work experience with an emphasis towards production support of high capacity critical eCommerce systems.
