The Principal Network Engineer will serve as a member of the ARINC Global Network (AGN) Systems Engineering and Architecture team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with and engaging in the design, development, testing and evaluation of network communication technologies products and solutions in support of the ARINC Global Network.

The ARINC GLOBAL Network (AGN) system is comprised of several private data centers and connects to the far reaches of the globe, in almost every country providing aviation, airport, government, and transportation connectivity. AGN provides private networking in a highly reliable, secure and available world-wide network architecture for Collins Aerospace IMS mission critical aviation, transportation, and airports customers.

What You Will Do:

  • You will work onsite at least 3 days a week in our Annapolis, MD office.
  • You will serve as the primary technical lead on projects that contain moderate to highly complex environments.
  • You will develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule and resource constraints.
  • You will lead and collaborate with other members of the Engineering team in the development of technical design solutions.
  • You will capture, analyze, decompose and create requirements for network systems, products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity.
  • You will use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and business requirements, to design, develop, document, test and maintain network systems ranging from the straightforward to highly complex.
  • You will author, review and maintain documentation during all phases of the system design life cycle as appropriate and specified within documented process and procedure (Project Plans, Estimates, Requirements Documentation, Operational Scenarios, Design Documentation and Drawings, Sys Acceptance Test Plans, etc…).
  • You will apply Security/Cybersecurity methodologies to network and systems design to provide secure services that support business requirements.
  • You will analyze and recommend contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network system architecture that may be applicable in addressing product and market needs.
  • You will configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, ACL).
  • You will author, champion and have strong opinions on engineering design standards and best practices.
  • You will act as a mentor to more junior engineers in all areas of the systems development life cycle.
  • You will provide post-fielding support, resolving operational issues involving L2 and L3, in a multi-routing network infrastructure.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience in network engineering and solutions or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience in network engineering and solutions or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have experience in systems engineering and solutions through all phases of the SDLC life cycle.
  • Must have experience with designing large-scale network architectures involving multiple servers, interfaces, networks, and databases.
  • Must have experience with data network technologies (OSPF, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, VPC, HSRP/VRRP, MPLS, P2P VPN, VAN, Trunking, QoS).
  • Five (5) or more years of experience with developing and managing technical requirements.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Active CCNA or CCNP certification.
  • Understanding of formal configuration management processes as well as knowledge of automation and configuration management leveraging tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience in performing tasks in computers with UNIX/Linux operating systems and working with telco providers using MPLS circuits.
  • Knowledge of VoIP Telephony and SIP with experience in voice network design to include SIP and QOS configurations.
  • Experience as mentor or team lead providing work direction and guidance to other personnel.
  • Knowledge of the Airport and Air Transport Industry domain s is desirable.

The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
