Data Engineer-II:

The Data and AI Platform Engineering Group at Expedia is looking for an expert, highly motivated, disciplined Data Engineer who can make an impact in creating a robust and scalable data platform. Group is focused towards providing solutions for stream, batch and ML compute platforms. Our mission is to provide services and solutions that helps Expedia build reliable, cost-transparent and optimized products and data platforms.

What you'll do :
  • Proactively teams up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem solving.

  • Continually seeks new technical skills in an engineering area.

  • Shares new skills and knowledge with team to increase effectiveness.

  • Exhibits comfort working with several forms of technology.

  • Understands the relationship between applications, databases and technology platforms.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of building and operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.

  • Develops and tests complex or non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.

  • Effectively applies knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements.

  • Understands software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code.

  • Thinks holistically to identify opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organisational boundaries.

  • Recommends advancements, innovations and changes in technologies (specifically relating to data engineering, cloud data platforms, data models, enterprise information management, business intelligence and data science).

Who are you:
  • You have a master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Preferred: You have 3+ years of Data pipelining experience and skilled coder with experience in high-level programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Python.

  • Proficiency in data processing using technologies like Spark, Spark Streaming, Spark SQL, or Map/Reduce.

  • Building robust and scalable data pipelines using a range of tools and programming languages.

  • Experience using and designing solutions on cloud infrastructure and services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Aptitude to independently learn new technologies and create solutions around them.

  • Experience with continuous delivery, automated deployments, and related engineering practices.
