Job Details

In the contemporary landscape of power distribution and conversion, transformers constitute the backbone of infrastructure for a myriad of applications including, but not limited to, Datacenters, photovoltaic systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and broadly, systems incorporating rectifier configurations. Such applications are inherently prone to the manifestation of distorted load profiles, a consequence of which includes the induction of direct current (DC) components into the primary winding of transformers.
This phenomenon precipitates a series of adverse effects: Saturation of magnetic core, voltage drop on secondary side, increment of no load losses and amplification of noise emission.
The objective of this work is to validate and refine the methodologies underpinning the construction of transformer cores within the operational context of Hitachi Energy. The unclear impact of this phenomena, in the best scenario reflects in an oversize of the transformer core with consequent increment of the transformer costs. In the worst condition could affect the normal transformer operation on the customer side.

Your responsibilities

  • Collection and the Global and local rules adopted by the different factories.

  • Preparation of a numerical model to calculate the impact of the DC components.

  • Perform specific laboratory test to validate the numerical model

  • Define an analytic methodology to predict the impact on the transformer design.

  • Reflect the outcome of the study on clear design rules.

Your background

  • Enrolled Student (Bachelor or Master) in Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledge on numerical software (e..g LT Spice, COMSOL, Maxwell)

  • Strong MS Office environment knowledge

  • Previous experience in international environment beneficial

  • Fluency in English
