Job Description
The Research & Development Lab Technician plays a key role in synthesizing, formulating, and testing both existing and experimental materials to support our research programs. We work collaboratively to ensure accurate data recording; this role maintains a laboratory notebook and generates comprehensive reports with conclusions from your lab work. Safety is a priority - adhering to all EHS policies and wearing the required PPE at all times. Together, we maintain a secure and compliant environment at our Avery Dennison Mill Hall site. This role operates Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
- Formulate blends/compounds in a lab under Avery Dennison personnel direction and test samples using approved technologies.
- Record and maintain accurate test results in laboratory notebooks and spreadsheets.
- Observe and document test outcomes, failure modes, and notable events.
- Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and cleaning of testing equipment while following standard operating and safety procedures.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness in the lab and support areas, adhering to housekeeping responsibilities.
- Work independently, guiding junior team members, and meeting attendance and shift expectations.
- Report near-miss incidents and participate in safety meetings and required training sessions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in chemistry or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of lab experience, or relevant education in place of experience if aligned with role requirements.
- Proficient in MS Office or Google Workspace with a strong foundation in mathematics.
- Ability to complete internal EHS and adhesive testing/synthesis training.
- Full proficiency in chemistry and chemical product testing, with basic mechanical skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and clear, professional communication.
- Skilled in maintaining professional relationships at all levels.
- Adaptable to changing tasks and processes outside the usual routine.
