Impact
As a Storage/Backup SRE, you will be a critical member of our technical team, responsible for supporting and maintaining the core storage and backup infrastructure for mission-critical enterprise applications. You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, reliability, and scalability of our storage and backup systems solutions.
You will have access to various monitoring and troubleshooting tools to investigate and resolve storage related issues. In this role, you will perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of issues, ensuring long-term stability and performance of the storage and backup infrastructure.
As a senior professional, you will bring fresh ideas, demonstrate a unique and informed perspective, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, real-world solutions. You will be instrumental in enhancing the overall user experience by optimizing data storage and backup performance, ensuring data protection and disaster recovery. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the resilience and efficiency of our infrastructure at every level.
The Job
Design, implement, and perform operational support of the company’s storage infrastructure, including Storage Arrays (Dell PowerStore, VMAX, Unity), SAN Switches (Cisco 9396), NAS and Block Storage Solutions, Storage Monitoring Tools (SRM, CloudIQ), Backup Solutions (EMC Networker, Data Domain, Druva), Automation Tools, and Disaster Recovery Systems.
Design & development of Backup and storage infrastructure solutions that are highly available, scalable, and support business continuity requirements. Implement strategies for data redundancy, disaster recovery, and optimal resource utilization to ensure seamless storage operations and data protection.
Simplify, secure, standardize, automate, and develop self-service capabilities throughout the storage infrastructure portfolio. Focus on streamlining storage management processes, enhancing security, implementing industry standards, and developing automation solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Collaborate with the Storage and Backup Operations Team to educate and train staff on storage and backup technologies and best practices. Provide knowledge sharing sessions and hands-on training to ensure effective utilization and management of storage and backup solutions.
Collaborate with business units, vendors, and other IT professionals to identify, design, and implement innovative storage and backup solutions that align with organizational needs and enhance data management capabilities.
Evaluate new storage and backup technologies and make recommendations for products that enhance the storage and backup infrastructure, improve performance, and support organizational data management objectives.
Participate in the improvement of storage workflows and policies, ensuring that processes are efficient, effective, and aligned with best practices for data management and security.
Support engineering and sustaining engineering projects as the representative for storage and backup services, ensuring that both solutions align with overall architectural goals and meet performance and reliability standards.
Hands-on experience on storage arrays Dell PowerStore, VMAX, Unity and MDS Cisco SAN Switches.
Hands-on experience with Cloud based backup technologies such as Druva (preferred).
Ensure accurate and regularly updated information related to storage physical inventory, logical inventory, design diagrams, technical troubleshooting documents and operational process documents.
Provide on-call 24x7 support when required.
Basic knowledge of virtualization, networking and datacenter consolidation.
Assist with preparing Statement of Work documents and seeking vendor input.
Perform regular health checks on storage and SAN systems to ensure optimal performance. Execute firmware upgrades for Storage, SAN Switches, SCG, SRM, and CloudIQ to the latest versions.
Leverage monitoring to ensure backups are completed successfully across the enterprise.
Manage CAVA server and ensure proper functioning.
Automate Backup, storage and SAN Switch day2day tasks using Ansible for increased efficiency.
Prepare and maintain relevant documentation, including audit-related documents. Conduct vulnerability remediation and ensure compliance with security standards.
Facilitate the migration of volumes from one storage system to another while minimizing downtime. Continuously assess and optimize storage solutions to meet evolving business needs.
Qualifications & Skills required
Strong Technical knowledge of the following Storage/Backup Infrastructure technologies:
Expertise in Dell PowerStore, VMAX, Unity, SRM, CloudIQ, and MDS Switches EMC Networker, Data Domain, DPA and Druva (Preferred).
Proficiency in Backup/storage replication, snapshots, cloning, and DR activities.
Strong knowledge of NAS and file system management.
Strong knowledge of backup systems, operations and recovery.
Configuration of EC2/ RDS Backup sets in Druva Cloud Ranger. Installation of required Client package on hosts to configure the hosts into Backup using EMC Networker/ Druva.
Experience with automation tools, particularly Ansible.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in storage management, SAN administration and backup management.
Scripting knowledge and automation experience (Terraform/Ansible)
Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning for Backup and storage systems.
Certifications related to storage technologies (e.g., Dell EMC) are a plus.
