Summary: As part of a mission centric, locally delivered and nationally powered organization this role serves as the prospect researcher for Advancement. Prospect researcher is responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for cultivation and solicitation. Relentlessly pursuing cancer cures.
While employees may be permitted to work remotely, travel to the assigned office, HUB or Satellite Offices may be required as determined by the employee’s manager and the employee’s People Organization Generalist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prospect Research
- Provide in-depth and thorough research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of resources to assess a potential donor’s capacity and propensity to donate and support the solicitation process
- Create and adhere to templates for various types of research profiles including assessments, snapshots, and in-depth profiles to fit the needs of a given strategy
- Seamlessly collaborate with Territory Advancement fundraisers and leaders to effectively understand fundraising partners’ priorities and needs and provide best-in-class research
- Research internal giving and outreach histories for current LLS donors for inclusion in profiles and to identify upgrade potential and stewardship opportunities
- Implement and improve processes for fielding prospect research requests
- Prospect Identification and Portfolio Development
- Proactively and independently plan and execute strategies to identify sources of philanthropy using creative research techniques and searching methodologies including batch wealth screens to ensure that frontline staff have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising and revenue goals
- Conduct relationship mapping between donors, prospects, volunteers, and volunteer leaders to identify relationships/connections and philanthropic potential of individuals, foundations, and corporations
- Mine and research the external landscape (news alerts, social media, etc.) to identify prospects and monitor news updates on current constituents
- Develop and execute strategies to identify prospects and ensure they are presented and assigned to appropriate frontline staff in a timely manner and through use of Salesforce CRM
- Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS mission and programs to promote Organizational initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:
- 1-2 years of experience in Prospect Research and/or Corporate Philanthropy
- Experience working in a complex organization
- Strong organizational, collaboration and communication skills
- Must be highly proficient in Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to work professionally and efficiently in a virtual environment.
- Experience working in a CRM system. Specific knowledge of Salesforce preferred.
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to identify and correct data inconsistencies.
- Ability to determine capacity ratings for prospects/donors.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of the Donor Engagement team.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and monitor multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under time constraints.
- Competency in problem solving and navigating a complex working environment.
- Excellent and proactive organizational, written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to present information and ideas in a group setting.
- High level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgement and discretion.
- Keep current on research and fundraising trends through regular contact with development and research colleagues at peer institutions as well as vendors.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:

- Average salary range is $50,000 to $63,000, open to further discussion based on geography.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $50,000 - $63,000. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at LLS we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
