Collins Aerospace’s Global Engineering & Technology Center in Puerto Rico (GETC-PR) is looking for a technically experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to applies scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions using computer design and engineering systems.

This professional lead and/or participate in research, plans, designs, and develops mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. May evaluate and analyze various mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency. May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment.

What YOU will do:

  • Conducts design of Landing Gear and Systems components working within an integrated product development team and coordinating with divisional engineering to ensure product excellence and integrity is achieved.
  • Liaise with customer/suppliers for all design related issues
  • Foster strong customer relationships through accountability, transparency, and credibility
  • Work through requirements compliance and verification and validation activities.
  • Generates design documentation such as tolerance stack-ups, developmental and kinematic assemblies, interface agreements and proximity sensing analysis
  • Generates layouts and conducts trade studies to determine optimal design solutions
  • Generate detailed part and assembly definition drawings and models/FTA using CATIA V5 and other relevant design tools.
  • Create associated parts lists supporting part definition
  • Investigates design related issues and develops effective solutions.
  • Develop Landing Systems mechanisms from customer specifications considering regulatory requirements and Collins Engineering methodologies.
  • Present designs at internal design reviews to ensure the design meets requirements and expectations
  • Generates test requirements and supports the test lab for design related tests
  • Design to requirements and work with engineering team on requirements management
  • Performs Engineering investigations into failures and participates in Root Cause and Corrective Action
  • Solve complex and difficult problems timely and with satisfactory resolution
  • Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.
  • Generate CR/CO through Team Center and have strong teamwork and communication skills with the process approvers.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and 2 years prior relevant experience or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Teamcenter (or other collaboration space) knowledge is a plus.
  • SAP knowledge is valuable.
  • Experience in Thermal Sciences is a plus.
  • EVMS experience and knowledge is a plus.
  • Project management /MS Project is valuable.
  • Pro-efficient in Siemens NX, Visio, PTC CREO Parametric is a plus, Solidworks, CATIA. 
  • Desirable in CNC Manufacturing, Mechanical Design.  Experience interacting with Mechanical/Electrical Computer Aided Design Resources (MCAD and ECAD). 
  • Experience interacting with configuration management (CM).
  • Knowledge and Experience working Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Tolerance Stack up Calculation, Weight Analysis, etc.
  • Proficient in NX NASTRAN, ANSYS tools and/or ABAQUS FEA software is a plus.
  • Maintains compliance to ITAR and regulatory requirements.
