The Mission Systems Environmental Effects Engineering team at Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced TEMPEST - EMC/EMI Electrical Engineer to join our staff. This position will be responsible to support the dynamic day-to-day pre-qualification and qualification testing for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity. This position is part of a larger team that performs a variety of TEMPEST, Nuclear, Electromagnetic Compatibility/Interference (EMC/EMI) and Power Input qualification testing of Company products and programs to various military and commercial industry standards.
The Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) lab is a world-class, full-service, 18,000 sqft (and growing) Environmental Qualification Test Lab located in Cedar Rapids, IA capable of creating nearly any environment required in the avionics industry. While EEE reports up through Mission Systems, they support all testing for Collins Aerospace and Raytheon Technologies as needed. EEE services not only include a full suite of Climatics, Dynamic, EMI, EMC, Lightning, and TEMPEST test capabilities; their industry experts also offer design support, analysis, test failure troubleshooting, root cause analyses, and much more.
What You Will Do:
Contribute to engineering program pursuits and bid estimates
Requirements capture activities (review, parse, and translate TEMPEST, EMC/EMI and power input requirements)
Documentation support for each assigned project including
Preparation and review of TEMPEST control plans and other test plans
Contribute to the development of the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Integration and Analysis Report (E3IAR)
Generate repeatable test procedures and physical test setups with test equipment and appropriate data recording using a variety of military and commercial industry standards
Develop and review TEMPEST test reports
Provide support to program during Design phase
Coordination and scheduling of in-house test activities
Validation of all laboratory test setups and methods to ensure compliance with test procedures and applicable standards
Interface with project engineers, as necessary, to support program activities
Conduct/lead day-to-day TEMPEST testing activities working independently on multiple projects and multiple tasks
Generate and review TEMPEST test data during the course of testing
Assist project engineers with gathering, setting up, and collecting data for ad-hoc evaluations outside of the testing events
Provide general laboratory support
Generate and verify requirement documentation for laboratory developed software
Conduct root-cause-analysis and technical investigations for software/hardware designs
Train and assist test technicians to navigate and use laboratory developed tools; test procedures, test methods, and data recording instructions; and troubleshoot test setups
Identify improvement areas; research and submit equipment requests for future test equipment needs
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
Hold an active Top Secret Security Clearance with capability to obtain Special Access Clearance
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Hold a current Certified TEMPEST Professional (CTP) Level II certification with at least 3 years of experience after receiving CTP Level II certification
Must be active in TEMPEST testing in the last 2 years and submitted TEMPEST reports for approval
CTP Level II certification must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of application of this position
5 years of EMI/EMC experience (over-and-above required TEMPEST experience of 3 years) for MIL-STD-461 or DO-160 specifications
Experience developing EMI qualification test procedures and reports as well as supporting qualification testing in an EMI laboratory
Be willing to travel occasionally upon request
Qualifications We Prefer:
Be capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators and other test equipment needed to conduct TEMPEST tests)
Knowledge of digital signal processing
Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and mid-level managers
Be self-directed, able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
