What You Will Do:

The Rapid Prototype Casting Lab (RPCL) is seeking an investment casting product engineer for our Advanced Castings organization to develop advanced tooling and casting mold designs for the production of advanced commercial and military turbine engine components. You will also partner with the appropriate process lead to ensure dimensional and metallurgical conformance of cast products, and you will serve as the technical interface with internal and external customers and suppliers to effectively support the RPCL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project lead for development, casting, and delivery of parts to customer specifications
  • Ensure the uniformity and efficiency of mold designs to optimize process efficiency
  • Work with the Process Modeling team to simulate and optimize casting processes
  • Collaborate with various design groups to add foundry specific features to the CAD design for tooling release
  • Lead tooling design, production, and procurement efforts
  • Advance the state of technologies for tooling and laboratory support fixtures in support of manufacturing processes
  • Ensure dimensional and metallurgical conformance of final product to customer expectations
  • Utilize statistical process control and continuous improvement tools to maximize and optimize RPCL throughput
  • Coordinate cell activities with the Process Engineers and Operations Manager
  • Lead efforts to enhance the quality of cast components produced in the RPCL
  • Analyze and enhancing production processes to minimize non-conformances by implementing specific corrective actions where necessary to improve efficiency and overall part quality
  • Define and implement lead time improvement, cost reduction, and process improvement opportunities

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering with 5+ years applicable experience or M.S. degree in Engineering with 3+ years applicable experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Six Sigma green belt or equivalent
  • The ability to create positive relationships and craft clear communication
  • Experience working with nickel alloys and single crystal casting process
  • Experience in gating and mold design for single crystal airfoils
  • Fluency in product and tooling electronic definition interpretation
  • A demonstrated history of implementing, maintaining and monitoring tooling for cast/core products and designing/monitoring associated quality assurance/control measures
  • Hands-on developmental and manufacturing experience with investment casting wax injection molding and wax assembly machinery and processes
  • Full proficiency in Computer-aided Design (CAD) systems such as NX
  • Ability to effectively work in a laboratory environment with a diverse group of skilled hourly operators and professional engineering staff

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
