Join Our Team Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Aftermarket Modifications and Upgrades

What you will do:

  • Innovative Design Leadership: Utilize state-of-the-art computer design tools to conceptualize and develop major components and functional systems, ensuring our products remain at the forefront of technology.
  • Strategic Technical Support: Provide critical technical recommendations that support our sales strategy, bridging the gap between engineering prowess and market demands.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between sales, engineering leadership, integrated project teams, operations, and supply chain, ensuring seamless communication and alignment of objectives.
  • Feasibility Assessment: Evaluate customer design requests for compatibility with existing product lines, leveraging your expertise to propose feasible solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Technology Integration: Drive the integration of new technologies into our existing product catalog, keeping us ahead of industry trends and customer expectations.
  • Cost Efficiency Champion: Lead cost studies and mentor junior engineers in best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency in product development.
  • Design Optimization: Enhance product designs to optimize manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency without compromising quality or performance.
  • Precision Engineering: Create detailed design layouts, sketches, and notes that prioritize ease of manufacture, material availability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Rigorous Testing: Conduct thorough investigations into design factors such as strength-weight efficiency and contractual specifications, ensuring robust and compliant solutions.
  • Structural Expertise: Develop and test both metallic and non-metallic structures and their fabrication processes, guaranteeing structural integrity and reliability.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure clarity, completeness, and accuracy in all design layouts and drawings, maintaining the highest standards of quality and precision.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional travel (0-10%) to a local sister site may be required.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Extensive familiarity with commercial seating background
  • Experience with NX (Unigraphics)
  • Experience designing with DFMA principles in mind
  • Familiarity with FAA requlations

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

Regardless of your role type, collaboration and innovation are critical to our business and all employees will have access to digital tools so they can work with colleagues around the world – and access to Collins sites when their work requires in-person meetings.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
