At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people’s lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation’s history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they’re making history. The Northrop Grumman Employee Communications team seeks a savvy and strategic Staff Communications Representative who is confident in being a strategic advisor, has an innovative spirit, thinks outside the “let’s send an e-mail” box, thrives on the challenge of telling compelling stories, and constantly seeks to improve communications practices through disciplined measurement, analysis and adjustment.
*This position reports to the Employee Communications Manager for Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems sector, and is located in Sunnyvale, California. This position requires working on-site. *
In this job, you’ll:
- Lead employee communications for our Manufacturing organization, driving the creation and execution of a communications strategy that informs and inspires employees and drives business priorities within the Mission Systems sector.
- Be Communications’ boots on the ground in Sunnyvale, stepping in to support local events including VIP visits, media visits, site all hands and more.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for assigned functional leaders by developing, implementing and measuring employee and executive communications plans and tactics.
- Develop compelling content - write talking points, speeches, video scripts, employee announcements and executive summaries for senior leaders. You’re not someone who “speaks in corporate” – instead, you seek to find the wow factor in stories, translating business priorities into interesting stories that engage and inspire audiences.
- Be a storyteller – conceptualize, find and produce a diverse array of inspirational content that supports our business goals and communications objectives.
- Think omnichannel – once you find a good story, you’re someone who wants to amplify it across channels to drive impact for audiences, both internal and external.
- Collect and analyze data, make recommendations to improve our approach and the results of future communications, events and activities.
- Lead and/or support the coordination of executive events, including virtual and in person webcasts, site visits, conferences and ceremonies.
-
Ensure all communications strategies and tactics are consistent with the company’s strategic vision and reflect the Northrop Grumman brand.
-
Support integrated communications for programs based in Sunnyvale, including creating strategic communications plans to help win undersea programs and keep them sold.
- Develop a communications rhythm for local site leadership, including site engagement opportunities and needle-moving engagements for the business.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Are a strategic, self-motivated, collaborative communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments and can juggle multiple projects simultaneously, reprioritize quickly and meet deadlines.
- Have proven experience in multiple areas across communications disciplines that you’ll use to create compelling and effective content and engagement methods.
- Are poised, approachable and confident in being a strategic advisor to business partners and senior leaders – tailoring your recommendations in response to business goals, communications objectives and measured outcomes.
- Are a strong writer, have excellent editing skills and are passionate about telling inspirational stories via articles, interviews, Q&As, brief/catchy lists, infographics, videos, animations, and photo/caption features. Ideally, you’ll bring some new ideas and formats we haven’t tried or thought of yet.
- Are disciplined in using data to measure the impact of communications plans and tactics, and consistent in identifying trends and recommendations from data.
- Have a track record of developing and implementing successful communications campaigns.
- Are collaborative and can gain consensus among stakeholders with disparate views.
- Are a stellar project manager who lives by prioritization and possesses a borderline-annoying attention to detail.
- Have great presentation and facilitation skills and can convey vision and approach to others.
- Are willing to challenge the status quo to propose and pilot new, creative solutions, tools and technologies.
