Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – Network Technical Writer III (24-423) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
As a Network Technical Writer working with the C2BMC Networks team members, the candidate will prepare documentation communicating technical details to internal and external customers about network operations’ physical and functional information. Work is within an agile team and is planned based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for creating and updating technical documentation using the most current industry and DoD documentation standards.
- Communicate status, dependencies, risks, and issues to the team lead.
- Create and maintain detailed program documentation, including visual details of Network architecture and design.
- Collaborating with and gathering feedback from Network Engineers, Leadership, and other stakeholders on draft documents for incorporation into final documents.
- Seeking detailed Network design information from existing documentation, device configurations, and development projects as source material for creating or modifying documentation.
- Updating information repositories such as:
- Confluence
- Jira
- SharePoint
- Tracking and meeting scheduled deadlines for documentation deliverables.
- Must be able to travel to alternate work locations to execute job duties.
Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- An active Secret clearance is required to start
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field with 5 years experience; 9 years experience instead of a degree or Master’s degree with 3 years experience in a related field
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated team members as well as independently at times on large projects
- Must be highly skilled in organization and presentation
- Must be able to conduct in-depth technical research to create content on new technologies and keep existing documentation accurate and current
- Must possess a proficient technical understanding of:
- Virtualization
- Network transport
- Network management tools
- Operating systems
- CI/CD Pipeline tools
- Infrastructure
- Grammar
- Diagram
- Markdown

Must possess the ability to write to various audiences
- Must have experience writing and editing High-Level Designs, Detailed Designs, Standard Operating Procedures, installation instructions, and other such documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current and active TS/SCI is highly desired
- Prior C2BMC experience
- Prior experience with markdown for docs as code
- Prior experience with Git and Nexus
- Understand DoD documentation standards

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:
Salary Range: $88,600 - $133,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
