Senior Director, Corporate Communications

The Senior Director of Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances Expedia Group's reputation, strengthens relationships with external stakeholders, and ensures consistent and impactful messaging across all channels. This pivotal role will oversee a team of communications professionals, driving strategy and execution across key functions, including executive communications, public speaking strategy, crisis communications, and business, financial, and technology media relations. The ideal candidate is an experienced communications leader with a strong background incorporate messaging, media relations, and crisis management within a performance-driven and high-growth environment. They will be a proactive leader capable of fostering innovation and driving measurable results.

In this role, you will:

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Internal and External CEO Communications: Responsible for crafting and executing strategic communication plans for the CEO, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful messaging to both internal stakeholders and external audiences. This role involves developing speeches, presentations, and written communications, managing media relations, and enhancing the CEO's visibility and engagement across various platforms.

  • Develop and execute an integrated corporate communications strategy aligned with Expedia Group's business objectives and brand vision

  • Serve as a key advisor to the executive team, providing counsel on messaging, media relations, and public appearances.

  • Oversee the development of corporate narratives and thought leadership platforms to position Expedia Group as an industry leader.

  • Ensure all communications are cohesive, engaging, and aligned with the company’s values and strategic direction

Executive Communications

  • Lead the creation and delivery of executive communications, including speeches, presentations, and social media content for senior leadership and the CEO.

  • Ensure that executive communications are consistent, authentic, and aligned with Expedia Group’s strategic priorities and corporate culture.

  • Drive Expedia Group’s external speaking strategy, identifying and securing high-profile speaking opportunities for executives.

  • Prepare executives for public appearances, media interviews, and conferences, ensuring they are equipped with key messages and talking points.


Media Relations & Financial Communications

  • Manage relationships with key business, financial, and industry media outlets, ensuring positive coverage of Expedia Group’s initiatives, financial performance, and brand.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for financial media, working closely with the finance and investor relations teams to ensure alignment of corporate messaging

  • Collaborate with Investor Relations (IR) to provide consistent and accurate communication to investors and analysts, enhancing Expedia Group's reputation in the financial community.

  • Lead media outreach strategy for key Expedia Group announcements, product launches, and milestones.

Crisis Communications & Reputation Management

  • Lead Expedia Group’s crisis communications strategy, ensuring timely and transparent messaging in response to any potential reputational or operational challenges.

  • Support the team’s creation of crisis communication plans and oversee their execution in high-pressure situations

  • Monitor the external environment for potential issues and advise on risk mitigation strategies.

Technology PR & Innovation Messaging

  • Lead the communications strategy around Expedia Group’s technological advancements, innovations, and platform transformation initiatives.

  • Work closely with the technology and product teams to develop compelling narratives that highlight Expedia Group’s technology leadership and innovation within the travel industry.

  • Manage media relations with tech and innovation-focused outlets to elevate Expedia Group’s profile in the tech space.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing communications team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide strategic direction, coaching, and feedback to team members to ensure alignment with Expedia Group goals and objectives.

  • Promote a “one-team” mentality that encourages ownership and collaboration around technical and customer problems irrespective of organizational boundaries.

  • Anticipate future state strategic business needs and develop rationale for investing in projects or initiatives to meet long-term objectives.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in corporate communications, with a strong background in media relations, executive communications, crisis management, and public speaking.

  • At least 7+ years in a leadership or management role, ideally within a travel, hospitality, or consumer-facing brand

  • Proven track record of working with senior executives and navigating complex, high-stakes communications challenges.

  • Ability to build and maintain key relationships, helping decision makers navigate business changes and resolve complex issues.

  • Structure and manage teams to stay flexible, balancing stakeholder demands with strategic communication priorities

  • Work with leaders to understand their goals and challenges, guiding problem-solving and exploring potential solutions.

  • Apply deep business knowledge to assess challenges, opportunities, and risks, offering informed communications counsel.

  • Develop cost-effective communication strategies, provide constructive feedback, and use persuasive negotiation skills to address objections.

  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas and communicate them clearly and persuasively.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and ability to align communications strategy with strategic priorities.

  • Expertise in crisis communications and reputation management, with a calm and solution-oriented approach in high-pressure situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with business, financial, and trade media outlets.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle and West Hollywood is $261,00 to $366,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in New York City is $292,500 to $409,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $468,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in West Hollywood is $261,500.00 to $366,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
