The Role:
Financial Data Specialist performs a range of data, analytical and research services that contribute to the overall credit analysis function performed by the fundamental rating group. Prospective candidates will have a good understanding of fundamental finance and financial statements as well as a good understanding of capital markets. The ideal candidate for this role will possess strong organizational skills, demonstrate attention to detail as well as their ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities:
Perform analysis to support ratings, research, analytical outreach. Examples of work include:
* Work independently on complex deliverables such as loss given default, speculative grade liquidity information or work on basic credit estimates; be able to prepare more complex credit opinions
* Apply MIS' standards to complex deliverables in order to produce valuable inputs into the rating and research process, including Moody's adjusted data, key indicators, ratios, charts and graphs in line with MIS’s methodologies
* Perform complex data intake tasks, including scrubbing, validating the data for further use in research and ratings
* Responsible for reviewing and understanding financial reports, official statements and other documents related to issuers’ performance
* Liaise with analysts and accounting specialists in order to understand the application of accounting concepts on a particular entity
* Work directly with ratings and support analysts to understand data capture requirements, adjustments and other information needed by the rating team for ratings and research
* Take initiative to lead projects or process improvements
* Undertakes review of other more junior team member’s work for straightforward tasks

* Understand and identify key risk factors with minimal guidance for simpler tasks
* Working knowledge of applicable methodologies
* Proficient in some technical and operational aspects of assigned deliverables
Stakeholder Management:
* Interact with lead and support analysts to resolve complex issues
Project Management:
* Develop proficiency in more than one project/deliverable with limited guidance
Qualifications:
* Bachelors/Masters in Engineering, Finance, Economics or Business/Accounting
* Relevant experience of 2+ years in credit/financial data analysis and interpretation; experience in fundamental finance or accounting will be an added advantage
* Individual must be organized, dependable, and able to multi-task and manage priorities, display initiative, and have the ability to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced environment
* Previous experience analyzing financial statements an advantage
* Excellent Microsoft Office skills, in particular advanced Microsoft Excel skills
* Fluency in English with advanced written and verbal communication skills; advanced interpersonal skills
* Language skills may be required for certain positions
