Job Details

The Credit Risk role is focused on analyzing the creditworthiness of individuals and entities, assigning risk ratings, recommending, or approving credit extensions or withdrawals, and providing ongoing monitoring of credit exposures. This role includes those with credit approval authority for portfolios requiring management for delinquency. Individuals within this role maintain a balance between risk and return, ensuring that credit policies are appropriate, and perform regular in-depth reviews of the credit portfolio. This role manages and mitigates potential credit losses, safeguarding the company's financial stability and supporting sustainable business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Independently review and assess business problems, leveraging extensive knowledge of industry standards and practices to evaluate potential risks in assigned portfolios. Identify emerging threats and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze and suggest improvements in credit risk processes for assigned portfolio based on in-depth analysis and industry best practices. Ensure the appropriateness and completeness of credit risk components, validating their usage trends.
  • Manage risk through various means, including spreading of client business, financial statement analysis, recognizing potential client risk early, periodic financial statement reviews, tracking financial covenants, and monitoring borrowing base credit facility compliance.
  • Communicate any potential risks to senior management, providing regular updates about the status of their Reviews.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience

•              Extensive professional experience in a similar role, demonstrating proficiency in credit approval, portfolio monitoring, and financial statement analysis.

•              Deep disciplinary knowledge within the field, integrated with subject matter and industry experience.

•              Advanced technical knowledge within a specific business area, including familiarity with credit risk processes, standards, and opportunities for improvement.

•              Commercial awareness and understanding of business operations and strategies, including experience in assessing business/risk staffing models.

•              Proven background in managing Corrective Action Plans related to credit risk reviews or business monitoring.

•              Advanced interpretation and analysis abilities related to financial statements and indicators.

•              Expertise in resolving complex business problems independently using analytical thinking and logical reasoning.

•              Strong communication skills to clearly convey complex information to a variety of audiences.

•              Proficiency in conducting comprehensive financial analysis, detecting potential risks, and initiating appropriate measures.

•              Ability to filter, prioritize, and validate complex and dynamic material.

•              Command of Customer Accounting Systems and Credit Platforms.

•              Experience in maintaining quality and consistency standards in Fundamental Credit Risk documents.

Education

Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience

This role is part of the Third Party Credit Risk Group which focuses on reviewing, challenging and approving Financial Risk Assessments and Credit Approval Memos, and monitoring the portfolio to identify potential deteriorations in a third party’s financial performance and ability to perform their contractual obligations to Citi. As a member of the Third Party Credit Risk Group (TPCRG), the position is a part of the Global Commercial Risk function within Business & International Risk (BIR). The function owns the Global Third Party Credit and Performance Risk Policy and manages and mitigates potential losses, safeguarding the company's financial stability and supporting sustainable business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide review, challenge, and approval of Credit and Financial Performance Risk assessments of both prospective and existing third-party relationships, including analyzing companies, industries, financial viability, Citi's contingent risks and contract protections.
  • Conduct annual and/or quarterly reviews of Third Parties involved in critical activities for Citi. Work with Citi Business units to establish effective action plans and contract language that mitigate Citi's risk.
  • Execute appropriate controls for in-scope third party relationships for Citigroup globally.
  • Assess quality of assigned portfolios, including identification and evaluation of emerging risks.
  • Provide autonomous assessment of the accuracy and appropriateness of risk ratings and classifications of the assigned portfolios.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience, preferably in financial and/or credit analysis
  • Knowledge of credit risk measures and basic accounting
  • Commercial credit experience, including analyzing corporate financial statements
  • Ability to analyze complex data, prioritize critical information, make informed decisions and present conclusions  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to articulate ideas clearly and adapt communication styles to suit different audiences
  • Ability to prioritize and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Good team player and excellent work ethics
  • Third party management experience would be a plus
  • Experience with interacting with senior management, regulators, internal and external audit would be a plus
  • Experience with internal risk / finance reporting systems (Optima, CitiRisk), system flows, data attributes would be a plus
