The Senior Engineering Manager is a senior management level position within Enterprise Technology. This position is responsible for accomplishing results and delivering business value through the management of a team or department driving a variety of engineering activities including the design, acquisition, build, deployment and management of software, hardware and network infrastructure, in coordination with Product and partner teams. The overall objective of this role is to lead the definition and delivery of business value via engineering and technology product capabilities and to define and implement the technology roadmap and strategy for the area.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a set of engineering teams to deliver business and technology value, working with peers and partners. Actively speed up and improve engineering practices ensuring higher levels of productivity and quality.
- Define and implement the workforce strategy creating an organization of happy, productive, engaged, co-located engineering teams comprised of direct and supplier staff located globally, including workforce planning, hiring, performance and pay management, and exits
- Implement career development frameworks and processes for the team, providing coaching, mentoring and development of engineering and related job families
- Be a great partner, but also hold your peers (Product, UX, Architecture) accountable for partnering with you in delivery
- Actively participate as a stakeholder in Product discussions, providing valuable input on product roadmap and requirements and advocating for initiatives such as technical debt reduction, modernization of technology assets, and improvements in ways of working
- Be a strong advocate for and drive the adoption of modern engineering practices including scaled agile, DevOps, CI/CD and automation, and build a culture of engineering and continuous improvement, with a focus on velocity, quality and agility
- Stay abreast of domain and industry developments and advocate relevant technology strategies as appropriate, including the use of AI, cloud, data technologies, and third-party products, and drive a culture of innovation
- Recommend and evaluate SaaS or third-party products as appropriate and manage existing SaaS and third-party products, licenses and vendor relationships. Work with third party product vendors to design, implement and upgrade risk-compliant, secure, fit for purpose products with the right architecture, infrastructure and monitoring.
- Develop and implement the technology roadmap and strategy and provide ownership for technology products, working in partnership with the product team, peers, business stakeholders, and technology partners
- Build productive relationships with business counterparts and support the execution of key programs working in partnership with business, infrastructure and security teams
- Oversee the technology budget for the function and manage the budget and forecasts to ensure relevant targets are met
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of relevant leadership and delivery experience in an Engineering focused role with extensive experience in global business, functional and people management
- Experience working in Financial Services or a large complex and/or global environment
- Exposure to working with AI-assisted software development models, and experience implementing Gen AI use cases
- Experience providing leadership for scaled agile release trains preferred; program management experience helpful
- Demonstrated ability to influence remote, senior stakeholders including senior business executives
- Experience in tracking and monitoring delivery, productivity and organizational health metrics
- Experience planning, forecasting and managing technology budgets at team level, including project tracking and governance
- Demonstrated systems thinking, critical analysis and design thinking skills
- Ability to work in a globally matrixed environment and partner with virtual teams and external partners
