AbbVie’s Corporate Communications team is responsible for enhancing and protecting AbbVie’s reputation. The team is seeking a Manager, Media Relations and Corporate Communications, who will be responsible for supporting media relations strategies and initiatives that drive understanding of and appreciation for AbbVie’s business.
This role will report to the Director, Media Relations and Corporate Communications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement proactive media relations strategies on behalf of AbbVie to enhance and protect AbbVie’s reputation.
- Implement proactive strategies and initiatives to develop and strengthen relationships with journalists.
- Partner with Corporate Affairs colleagues to continually identify high impact external media opportunities and provide guidance on appropriate media engagement for various company announcements.
- Support internal and external enterprise communications around key inflection points for AbbVie’s business, including quarterly earnings and other corporate announcements.
- Lead and oversee process for the distribution of press releases in accordance with company policies, including regularly reviewing protocols and providing guidance and training to Corporate Affairs team members on best practices and best use of technology platforms.
- Develop materials to support media engagements, including interview briefing and messaging documents.
- Support crisis communications and issues management, advising on best practices and real-time responses.
- Partner with Director, Media Relations to support media training and preparation sessions for senior leaders.
- Oversee daily media monitoring reports and other ad-hoc monitoring requests for the business.
- Manage agency relationships and budgets to drive effective company communications.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, journalism or a related field.
- 5-7 years’ experience in communications and media relations, with a proven track record of driving successful external communications initiatives for large, global companies, with either agency or in-house experience.
- Healthcare/pharmaceutical experience a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with and develop materials for senior leaders, influence without authority, and navigate complexities in a matrixed environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Strong business acumen and professional judgement.
- Effective management skills with an ability to anticipate company and team needs.
- A proactive, highly organized self-starter with an interest and ability to learn quickly and take ownership of projects.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
