Job Description

  • The position is located within the Translational Sciences group in the Neuroscience Discovery Research organization at Ludwigshafen, Germany
  • The open position is planned for 6-9 months ideally beginning in March or April
  • The talented intern will make substantial contributions to the development of new biomarker approaches for neurodegenerative diseases in a collaborative research environment

 

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities will include the development of protein biomarker assays, e.g. ELISA, and the optimization of PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cell) isolation and analysis protocols to support neuroscience biomarker identification
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments to support research activities under the supervision of an experienced mentor
  • Plan details of experiments and maintain a lab notebook
  • Operate scientific equipment, e.g. microplate readers, automated liquid handlers, and utilize software tools to analyze and interpret data

Qualifications

  • Master level student (undergraduate) in neuroscience, biochemistry, cellular & molecular biology or related life science field.
  • Previous lab experience in protein biochemistry and molecular & cellular biology is required.
  • This position requires the intern to be comfortable handling blood samples collected from both healthy individuals and patients.
  • Affiliation to a German university is required for the entire duration of the contract.
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in English (written and oral) are required.
  • Ability to clearly structure and present scientific activities and results.
  • High scientific rigor and commitment.
  • A high degree of flexibility and curiosity.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal relationship skills.
