The Quality Specialist - Chemistry performs a variety of quality control tests, inspections, and standard analytical evaluations on products, materials, and components at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards. This role supports finished product release criteria and works closely with the Quality Team to identify, solve, and prevent issues affecting regulatory compliance as well as product quality and food safety. 

  General Responsibilities 
  • Follow and uphold company Quality Policy, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and all quality and food safety requirements.
  • Escalate quality or food safety findings to management.
  • Ensure high standards of product quality, services, housekeeping, and hygiene in designated areas.
  • Support compliance to FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 while driving continuous improvement for Quality KPIs.
  • Assist with initiatives such as issue reduction and defect investigations.
  • Train and advise Production Operators in achieving established quality standards.
  • Review and update factory policies and standard operating procedures in alignment with corporate standards.
  • Support document control processes and maintain accuracy of controlled documentation.
  • Assist with net contents control, including monitoring, reporting, and ensuring functionality on the factory floor.
  • Prepare lot summary reports for Quality Monitoring Scheme (QMS) compliance.
  • Support production decision-making related to quality and food safety.
  • Conduct GMP, procedural, and documentation audits on the production floor.
  • Coach and train employees on quality practices.
  • Support foreign body/material reduction teams.
  • Execute daily review of HACCP documentation.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as business needs require.
  Chemistry Laboratory Responsibilities 

In addition to general responsibilities, the following responsibilities represent duties specific to the Chemistry Laboratory. These activities may be assigned based on operational needs, staffing, or competency development.

  • Perform routine chemical analyses including Total Solids, Fat, Vitamin C, Protein, vitamin and mineral, ash, and related assays.
  • Conduct Alternative vs. Reference method analysis and review monitoring files.
  • Track and trend data to ensure method performance
  • Perform cleaning, preparation, and logistical activities for chemical testing workflows.
  • Maintain inventory and budgets, including ordering, receiving, organizing, and reconciling materials.
  • Coordination of sample shipment as needed to support additional testing needs
  • Execute Sign-off/Verification of laboratory records, ensuring no errors are present and no outstanding documentation remains.
  • Support specialized projects such contaminant testing and new product trials
  • Create and update training documents and support floor and laboratory coaching.
  • Maintain cleanliness and compliance of all chemistry work areas.
  • Conduct method performance testing and vertical method assessments
  • Commissioning and method validation of new equipment
  • Equipment troubleshooting and coordination of preventative maintenance & calibrations 
  • Provide support and guidance to quality technicians as needed
  • Perform additional chemical, sensory, or instrument-based testing as required.

 

Requirements and Minimum Education Level 

B.S. degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.

  Experience 
  • Prefer 2–3 years of manufacturing, laboratory, or sanitation experience.
  • Experience in the following analytical methods is preferred:
  • HPLC, FTIR, Monitor fats and solids testing, ICP-MS, Moisture/solids testing, potentiometric auto titration

 

  Skills 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematical and statistical applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Precise, accurate, and well-organized work habits.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform in a fast‑paced, demanding environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including spreadsheet and data analysis software.
  • Experience with TPM/continuous improvement methodologies.
