DESCRIPTION
The Product Design Technician – Level II creates, maintains, and reviews product specifications, including 3D models and detailed drawings, for Cummins products in alignment with company, industry, national, and international standards. This role supports the product development lifecycle by ensuring model and drawing quality, configuration control, and effective cross-functional collaboration, while positively impacting organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and review 3D CAD models and detailed drawings in compliance with Cummins Engineering and Drafting standards.
- Ensure high quality of models and drawings through adherence to GD&T principles and participation in Drawing Quality Reviews.
- Utilize CAD and PLM/PDM tools (Windchill) for configuration control, security, and release of engineering data.
- Perform drawing reviewer responsibilities in Windchill as per drafting standards and release processes.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and support Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) as required.
- Process internal engineering work requests and support product configuration and change management activities.
- Ensure application of company, industry, national, and international standards in all specifications.
- Engage with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, engineering, and quality to support product development and lifecycle needs.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of engineering standards and best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems – Applies in-depth mechanical system knowledge to develop robust designs across all lifecycle stages.
- Mechanical Design Specification – Develops complete specifications including solid models, EBOMs, and detailed drawings compliant with applicable standards.
- Product Configuration and Change Management – Manages configuration baselines and engineering changes from concept through obsolescence.

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field (required).
- Regionally applicable certification or a two-year Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field may be required.
Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
- In-depth functional knowledge of Engine Business Products and After-treatment systems.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, Cummins Engineering standards, and drafting standards.
- Proficiency in Creo for 3D modeling and drafting.
- Hands-on experience with PLM/PDM tools, preferably Windchill.
- Sound knowledge of GD&T and their application.
- Experience in sheet-metal is preferred.
Professional Skills
- Ability to create and release the drawings in Windchill following standard processes.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Experience
- Requires some work experience with intermediate-level knowledge obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.
