Job Summary
This product-focused role tailors electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products across a variety of customer applications. The position translates product requirements into hardware and software technical requirements that control product operation and ensures comprehensive validation of fully integrated systems.
The role leads embedded software verification and validation activities, supports system integration and test strategy development, and drives execution excellence across varying business scenarios and software life cycles.
Key Responsibilities Test Strategy, Development & Execution
- Lead automotive embedded software engineering activities to deliver project expectations across multiple software life cycles.
- Develop and execute system, software, and integration test plans.
- Prepare and maintain Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) documentation.
- Lead test development and execution across HiL, MiL, and SiL environments.
- Ensure validation coverage analysis and robust verification of requirements.
- Review test outcomes regularly and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure adherence to defined test processes and quality standards throughout the year.
- Contribute to lessons learned and organizational knowledge databases.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Customer Interface
- Facilitate collaboration between customers and software/calibration teams to gather requirements for test development.
- Coordinate with customers and test leads to prioritize test development and execution resources.
- Work with Validation Managers (VMs), Lab Operations, and technical teams to ensure required hardware/software test environments are available.
- Support planning and validation activities for new product introductions.
- Coordinate test planning activities with customers and VMs.
- Manage CSAR DCR activities (non–test development related).
- Ensure timely delivery of all test development and execution requests.
Systems Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Investigate electronic application and system issues; determine root cause and lead resolution.
- Apply and improve systems development processes including modeling, simulation, calibration, troubleshooting, and product life maintenance.
- Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable system and software requirements.
- Establish acceptance criteria and track requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
- Support system design decisions impacting calibration, requirements, diagnostics, and subsystem performance.
- Review work of less-experienced developers and testers to ensure robust and reusable design.
- Lead process development and continuous improvement initiatives within the test community.
- Provide independent leadership for smaller business-impact projects or complex components/systems with full accountability to the project team.
- Coordinate work across technicians, temporary staff, and junior engineers while mentoring and transferring knowledge.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM field (required).
- Master’s degree in relevant discipline (preferred for select roles).
- May require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- ISTQB certification or strong knowledge of structured test processes (preferred).
Skills & Knowledge
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience leading embedded software engineering and validation activities.
- Experience in:
- Test development and execution
- HiL / MiL / SiL environments
- Testing tools such as NI, dSpace, ECU-Test, or similar platforms
- System/Software Verification & Validation methodologies
- Knowledge of requirements and configuration management tools (RV&S, JIRA preferred).
- Experience in DVP&R preparation and validation documentation.
- Understanding of open and closed loop control systems.
- Knowledge of mechatronics systems integration and optimization.
- Experience in product function modeling, simulation, and analysis.
- Strong structured product problem-solving capability.
- Experience in project management (Scrum team management preferred).

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Required
- Prior Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer equivalent experience in embedded systems, verification & validation, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated track record of technical problem-solving and quality decision-making.
- Proven experience leading validation efforts across multiple projects or product platforms.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and customer-facing activities.
- Experience operating across varying business scenarios and software life cycles.
- Working knowledge of MS Office tools.
