Product Design Technician - Level II - OFFC
Job details
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Product Design Technician - Level II to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Jamestown, NY.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Elevate product accuracy and reliability by producing precise drawings and models that align with company, industry, and global standards.
- Strengthen product quality through rigorous application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure clear, manufacturable specifications.
- Enhance configuration control and data security by expertly managing CAD models and documentation within established data management systems.
- Improve cross‑functional efficiency by processing engineering work requests promptly and collaborating seamlessly with design, manufacturing, quality, and other key teams.
- Support consistent engineering excellence by maintaining and updating standards, templates, and best practices that guide specification development.
- Reduce errors and rework by conducting and contributing to thorough Drawing Quality Reviews that catch issues early in the design cycle.
- Drive organizational performance by ensuring every specification you create directly supports product integrity, manufacturability, and long‑term reliability.
- Act as a steward of compliance by ensuring all documentation meets national and international regulatory requirements, protecting both product performance and company reputation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- A solid command of CAD modeling tools and the ability to follow Cummins’ modeling standards so your designs support downstream analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
- A deep, working understanding of mechanical systems that allows you to create designs that are not only innovative but also robust across all lifecycle stages and operating environments.
- The capability to translate design intent into complete, accurate specifications — including solid models, detailed drawings, and well‑structured bills of materials — that manufacturing, quality, and inspection teams can rely on.
- Strong knowledge of national, international, industry, and Cummins-specific standards so every specification you produce is compliant, consistent, and unambiguous.
- Skill in configuration management practices to maintain product baselines, track changes, and ensure that every update is controlled, documented, and communicated effectively.
- The discipline to manage change from concept through obsolescence, using work requests and structured processes to maintain product integrity over time.
- The ability to collaborate across functions — engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain — to gather inputs, resolve issues, and ensure your designs meet all stakeholder needs.
- Clear, adaptable communication skills that allow you to convey technical information to different audiences, whether you’re explaining design intent, presenting changes, or participating in reviews.
