DESCRIPTION
Utilize systems knowledge to make decisions on technology integration, design, analysis, and experimental test verification and validation for new and existing products that impact product form, functionality and overall project risk trade-offs. Create, manage, and improve processes like Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDMFEA, and FIRG, and utilize tools such as 7-step problem solving and design review checklists. Look for opportunities to improve on existing designs and work on solutions that improve overall safety and enhance system performance. Lead product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles or product specifications. Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles. Ensure product capability meets or exceeds expectations and take mitigating actions when project risks are higher than anticipated. Participate in Product Failure Mode Avoidance by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control and noise factors, and potential failure causes for the system of interest. Lead Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis to impact product design decisions. Identify and analyze the interfaces and interactions across system boundaries and integrate system elements by creating an integration plan. Develop product systems verification and validation plans from a variety of inputs. Utilize System Requirements Engineering methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed. Design and apply open/closed loop feedback controls features and the system interactions between hardware and software in Cummins’ products. Appy engineering knowledge toward Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems to design for requirements of all lifecycle stages by considering the customer requirements in different operating environments to ensure a robust system. Create complete mechanical design specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials, and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related) and 5 years of experience as a Product Specialist, Technical Lead, or related position. Experience to include: Technology integration, design, analysis; Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDMFEA, and FIRG processes; 7-step problem solving and design review checklists; Product Failure Mode Avoidance; Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis; Develop product systems verification and validation plans; System Requirements Engineering methods and tools; Design and apply open/closed loop controls; Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems; Create mechanical design specifications.
