Job details
DESCRIPTION
Utilize extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and processes in order to design and specify test systems that allow operation of company products in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation to optimize product designs. Obtain input and negotiate with product engineers, lab leaders, and equipment manufacturers and deliver working test systems, processes, and documentation to lab operations personnel and product engineers. Make decisions in the areas of test equipment design standards, applicable safety regulations, test systems suppliers, and quality processes that impact test system efficiency, maintainability, safety, operating cost, and compliance to standards and regulations. Create, manage, and improve processes such as test equipment design, maintenance and calibration and utilize tools including Measurement Systems Analysis, Process Hazard Analysis, and 7 step problem solving, required to drive the processes and enable high quality decision making. Act as global subject matter expert on specific test equipment, sub-systems, or systems. Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems and lead global efforts to drive common processes and tools. Apply mechanical engineering expertise to lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems. Analyze measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science. Apply Laboratory Equipment Safety techniques to evaluate hazards specific to laboratory test equipment that may result from fuels, kinetic energy, toxins, electrical or other risks in the test environment. Interpret test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements. Select and integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data using Product Function Test System Design. Assess capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure. Apply Systems Thinking to analyze linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest by using appropriate methods, models and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects. Select appropriate equipment and techniques to operate the product and record operational data in a hardware or software-based testing environment most often required as part of a product verification or validation plan. Coordinate and direct work of technical project teams, including maintaining Scope, Schedule, and Resources as part of project management.
