About the team
The Agentic Orchestration team builds and scales the core orchestration layer that powers Zillow's AI-driven experiences. We're building a platform that enables domain teams across the company to extend and enhance agentic AI capabilities. This role requires an entrepreneurial approach and a driven curiosity about the constantly evolving field of LLMs, agentic systems, and AI-powered assistants.As an SDE (backend) on the Agentic Orchestration team, you'll be partnering with a highly skilled group of applied scientists, software developers, and machine learning engineers working together to scale and evolve Zillow's next-generation AI platform.
About the role
We are seeking a collaborative, product-minded backend engineer with strong Python fundamentals and a passion for building reliable, scalable systems that power AI applications.
- Build and maintain the orchestration platform that routes requests, manages context, and integrates tools for agentic AI experiences.
- Contribute to platform infrastructure that enables domain teams across the company to build on top of the orchestrator without bottlenecks.
- Support scaling the orchestration layer to handle significant traffic increases as AI-powered experiences expand to more users.
- Collaborate closely with applied scientists and machine learning engineers to integrate new AI capabilities into production systems.
- Participate in operations and reliability efforts including incident response, performance optimization, and cost management.
- Apply a growth-mindset and first principles to ambiguous problems to iterate on novel solutions and ways of working.

Who you are
Experience with agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph) or large language model integration
Experience building platform infrastructure that other teams consume as a service
Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-integration patterns for AI systems
Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka)
Familiarity with data platforms and observability tooling (e.g., Databricks, DataDog)
Experience in a startup environment or on a small team building products from scratch
Experience collaborating with science, engineering, design, and product partners in a team with a startup culture
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) or equivalent experience in Computer Science
