AbbVie’s Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Infrastructure, Architecture, and Innovation group is seeking a Product Manager with experience in Platform Engineering and Developer Experience, Internal Developer Toolchains and DevOps.
This role supports product strategy, design and planning for multiple internal platform products that enable secure, compliant, scalable, and high-velocity software delivery across BTS.
You contribute to internal platform products using product management best practices, embedding reliability, security, and compliance as differentiated capabilities while improving developer experience, operational efficiency, and time to value.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate outcome‑oriented alignment across business, engineering, and BTO stakeholders for a suite of Platform Engineering and Internal Developer Toolchain products, ensuring enterprise requirements (security, compliance, reliability, cost) are delivered as built-in platform value.
Champion end-to-end product management from user research, discovery and ideation through launch, adoption, and continuous optimization of internal platforms.
Own platform capabilities such as CI/CD pipelines, developer portals, artifact management, and observability.
Treat compliance, security, and operational controls as first-class product features, embedding them directly into platforms and pipelines.
Participate in user research, journey mapping, stakeholder engagement, and market analysis to drive platform product decisions.
Focus engineering teams on the why. Own business outcomes and user problems, not solutions—deeply understand developer pain points before prescribing platform features.
Work closely with Engineering, Security, Architecture, Legal, and Compliance teams to deliver platforms that are compliant-by-design, scalable, and reusable.
Use data analytics, KPIs, and OKRs to measure product success, guide prioritization, and drive evidence-based, customer-centric decisions.
Manage and refine backlog items: define epics and features, ensure clarity of requirements, and enable timely outcomes delivery using Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and Lean practices.
Collaborate with other Product Managers to align platform strategies, manage interdependencies, and deliver a cohesive internal developer ecosystem.
Guide cross-functional teams in delivering platform standards, paved roads, and self-service capabilities that accelerate product team delivery.
Proactively monitor DevOps, Platform Engineering, cloud, and AI trends to ensure platform relevance, sustainability, and innovation.
Facilitate outcome-oriented alignment across business, engineering, and BTO stakeholders, clearly communicating strategy, trade-offs, and progress.
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree with 7 years’ experience, master’s degree with 6 years’ experience, PhD and 2 years’ experience.
Proven experience as a Product Manager contributing to platform, infrastructure, or internal developer-facing products.
Knowledge of Agile product management, product discovery frameworks (Lean, Dual-Track Agile, Jobs-To-Be-Done Framework, Continuous Discovery), and outcome-based roadmapping.
Strong understanding of Platform Engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and developer experience.
Prior hands-on engineering experience or deep technical background in software delivery.
Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams including Engineering, SRE, Security, and Architecture.
Proven ability to engage engineering teams as a technical peer—can discuss architectural trade-offs, evaluate technical debt, and contribute to design discussions.
Strong analytical, user empathy, and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent communicator able to build trust, influence without authority, and align teams in a complex, matrixed enterprise environment.
Preferred:
Experience in regulated industries (pharma, healthcare, finance) with familiarity in GxP, SOX, GDPR, or similar frameworks.
Hands-on exposure to Platform Engineering models (internal developer platforms, golden paths, paved roads).
Experience delivering Compliance-as-a-Platform or Security-as-a-Platform capabilities.
Background working closely with Cloud Engineering, SRE, or DevOps organizations.
Ability to manage competing priorities and navigate ambiguity while driving business outcomes
Why This Role Matters
This role directly enables faster, safer, and more reliable delivery of digital products across AbbVie. By treating platform capabilities as products, the Product Manager will improve developer productivity, reduce operational and compliance risk, and scale engineering excellence across the enterprise.
