We're seeking someone to join our team as a Director in the MSIM Operations Risk team to support the MSIM Operations line teams through the identification, assessment, remediation, reporting, mitigation and governance of risk. The team is also involved in internal and external audit facilitations, end-user entitlements reviews, independent assessments, business continuity planning, managing regulatory risks, risk education, vendor management, and awareness and embedding a culture of risk management
The New York team is directly responsible for North America Operational risk, with involvement and oversight of global initiatives. The position is directly responsible for evaluating the proposed new environment through a strong focus on control design while simultaneously considering automation opportunities.

In the Operations division, we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions, devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships. This is an Advanced Specialist position at Director level within Risk, Regulatory & Resilience, which performs various independent functions to ensure adequate controls are in place. We do this by providing an integrated risk and control framework to govern, assess, mitigate and manage financial and operational risk in Operations.

What you'll do in the role:

  •  Manage complex processes and/or support significant process management/project efforts

  • Lead in process improvement, project management or technology development and testing across multiple teams and/or divisions

  • Analyze and expose ambiguous, complex issues or non-standard issues, identify risks, root causes and propose future actions, tracking through to resolution

  • Build and manage relationships with business unit partners, other Morgan Stanley infrastructure departments, and external contact points in Client or Market organizations

  • Partner closely with project leads and senior project stakeholders - reporting to the Global Head of Operational Risk.

  • Operations Risk Management - risk identification, assessment, monitoring, tracking, reporting and mitigation through this project based role

  • Identify automation opportunities and reduce manual processes

  • Process design review through controls lens

  • Balance multiple workstreams simultaneously/anticipate challenges/deliver strong results

  • Other related duties as assigned

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Front-to-back knowledge of the processes, projects, systems, markets and instruments that influence their team with a comprehensive understanding of job-related operational/compliance policies and procedures

  • Ability to think commercially, understand the impact of initiatives, risks on the operational budget

  • Ability to address non-standard issues within area of expertise

  • Culture carrier and role model, representing and leading the Firm's core values to influence and motivate those around you

  • A Risk Manager with minimum 4 years of operational risk experience

  • Ability to lead and drive initiatives independently

  • Strong presentation skills and an ability to report to and manage senior stakeholders

  • Able to design effective preventative and detective controls

  • Strong attention to detail, quality and accuracy

  • Experience with process reengineering

  • An ability to 'think outside the box' and look for creative solutions

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

  • Proven record of collaborating with colleagues across geographic and functional boundaries

  • Strong drive for continuous improvement

  • Able to independently test controls to identify potential areas of weakness

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $172,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
