DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
This early career, product-focused engineering role supports the design, development, and validation of fuel system components and subsystems across the product lifecycle. The role acts as a key coordination point between cross-functional teams including product engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customer-facing teams. The engineer applies technical expertise to support product development processes such as VPI, PPT, and CPS while ensuring quality, performance, and reliability standards are achieved.
Key Responsibilities 1. Product Design & Development
- Support design and development of fuel system components (common rail diesel systems and fuel pumps).
- Generate and evaluate design concepts using structured methodologies (e.g., Pugh matrix, Cause & Effect analysis).
- Develop detailed designs including material selection, engineering calculations, GD&T, and tolerancing.
- Create and maintain 3D models and engineering drawings using Creo.
- Ensure designs meet technical, performance, and regulatory requirements.
2. Product Lifecycle Execution
- Execute engineering processes across Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS).
- Apply Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, and design review checklists.
- Participate in and lead cross-functional design reviews from design to production (D to P phases).
- Manage product configuration and engineering changes using tools like Windchill and RV&S.
3. Verification, Validation & Analysis
- Develop and execute Design Verification and Validation (DV&V) plans.
- Interpret simulation results (structural, flow) and provide design recommendations.
- Ensure product performance, durability, and endurance requirements are met.
- Support failure analysis and resolution using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 7-step problem solving, FIRG).
4. Problem Solving & Risk Management
- Investigate product issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform risk identification, classification, and mitigation through iDFMEA and other tools.
- Own resolution of moderately complex product and subsystem issues.
- Drive continuous improvement to prevent recurrence of failures.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with product line engineers, systems engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers.
- Coordinate technical inputs and communicate design decisions effectively.
- Support alignment across stakeholders to ensure high-quality product decisions.
- Provide technical direction to technicians or junior team members when required.
6. Continuous Improvement & Documentation
- Contribute to improvements in engineering processes, tools, and systems.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports, and design records.
- Support knowledge sharing and effective communication across teams.
