Position Summary:

Support development and implementation of strategic sourcing activities in assigned commodity.  Obtains the best quality, service, and value for products and services through effective bidding, negotiation, and supplier management.  The Associate Commodity Manager will support the development and implementation of specific strategies and projects related to cost reduction initiatives, new product development, supply base and sourcing optimization and rationalization, quality improvement, risk assessment, and contract negotiation.  

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support development and implementation of strategies and goals for assigned commodities in support of overall divisional business objectives.
  • Support development and implementation of processes to build a best in class strategic sourcing organization.
  • Develop and lead cross functional teams and lead the process to create strategic commodity plans, consolidation strategy, and spend/supply assessments taking into account total product life cycle needs.
  • Participates in sourcing analysis and selection process and performs cost analyses and make versus buy analyses as required.
  • Participates in development of contract strategy.  Negotiates, establishes, monitors and enforces supplier contracts and agreements. 
  • Develop strong partnership relationships with key suppliers as well as other disciplines within the businesses.
  • Identify supply base risk and develop/implement mitigation plans.
  • Obtain and communicate market condition information and technology trends related to commodities and suppliers.
  • Utilize market trends to identify and implement appropriate cost controls and business strategy changes.
  • Perform cost analyses and make versus buy analyses as required.
  • Responsible for assuring cost standards are established for annual operating budgets.
  • Collaborate across functions, divisions, and campuses to develop scorecards and business reviews for key suppliers. 
  • Organize and lead scorecard review meetings and business reviews.

Qualifications/Work Experience

· 6+ years in Supply Management with focus on strategic sourcing and supplier development.                                                                                        

· Knowledge and application of supplier contract strategy, negotiations, contractual terms, and contract administration.                                                               

· Knowledge of supplier processes and supply chain risk factors including experience in assessing and mitigating risk in the supply base.

· Ability to negotiate effectively to obtain best prices and terms on products, materials, and services.      

· Ability to effectively communicate and present information to suppliers, team members, team leaders, and top management.    

· Ability to build relationships and influence across multiple functions and levels both internally and externally.

·       Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies & cost reduction methodologies.

·       Experience with supplier metrics & measurement methodologies and supporting systems.

·       Strong skills in leadership, negotiations, influencing, communication & presentation, project management, troubleshooting & problem solving, analysis, strategic thinking, and collaborative team building.

·       Strong judgment with the ability to make and communicate timely and sound decisions

·       International sourcing and supplier management experience preferred.              

·       Experience operating in a highly regulated industry.  Medical Device industry sourcing and supplier management experience preferred.   

·       Working knowledge of ISO13485 standards and requirements preferred.                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

·       Demonstrated proficiency in ISO13485 standards preferred.

·       Supplier Audit experience in quality system standards: FDA QSR, ISO3485 and ISO9001 preferred

·       Proficient on basic computer programs including Microsoft Suite applications

Project Management knowledge and experience preferred

Education/Special Training Required

·       Bachelor's Degree in Supply Management, Business, Finance, Engineering or related field.                                                                               

·       Master’s Degree Preferred

Professional certifications through APICS, ISM, and/or CSCMP

Physical Requirements:

·       Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, etc.  Generally involves sitting most of the time

·       Must be able to communicate with large groups of people

·       Must be able to review printed materials

·       Ability to use common office equipment (e.g. calculator, computer, fax machine, etc.)
