The evolution of human connection in a hybrid workforce

Hosted by:

The need for human connection is both powerful and primitive. But how do we cultivate authentic relationships at work - keeping loneliness and isolation at bay - in a hybrid workplace?

Marina Hartung, Sourcing Manager at Meta, understands the importance of establishing meaningful connections in a high-tech environment. Marina has led hybrid teams for 10+ years and recently transitioned herself from remote to hybrid.

At times, Marina has struggled being heard - even as a leader - and discovered firsthand the roles visual politics and empathy play in building trust. She shared her personal experiences (challenges included!) and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

🎙️ In this chat, we discussed:

  • Strategies to create and maintain meaningful connections in a hybrid workspace + assemble a solid support system
  • Simple ways companies can prove they value their people
  • How to find balance between in-person and remote worlds
  • Tips to reduce anxiety with basic ground rules for virtual interactions
  • How to make your voice heard, amplified, and valued!

Marina Hartung
Sourcing Manager at Meta
Marina Hartung has almost 15 years of recruiting and sourcing experience with 10+ years inside a remote environment. Marina is a Sourcing Manager at Meta, focused on the sourcing side of recruitment and based in Austin, TX. Her background includes working for various organizations, including starting her career at a family-owned staffing agency in Chicago and, most recently, helping create a corporate sourcing team for Lowe’s.

At Meta, Marina’s team focuses on hiring high-volume technical recruitment professionals across the USA and Canada. She is passionate about targeting non-traditional candidate pools, giving those who may not have the opportunity or access to companies such as Meta the opportunity to use their transferable skills in roles that will help change the trajectory of their careers (and lives!).

Marina volunteers to help with a year-long, short-term employee program designed to train candidates without prior recruiting experience on how to be a sourcer, giving them critical skills to jumpstart their career in recruitment (at Meta and beyond).

Outside of work, Marina has two amazing kids and an anxious black lab who keep her very busy! She recently relocated from Oklahoma to the Austin area to work a hybrid schedule (part-time remote, part-time in office). A former collegiate swimmer, she found CrossFit when she moved to rural Oklahoma in 2014 (due to a complete lack of lap pools in the entire area!). Marina is a current Oklahoma state record holder for both Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting (earning a spot to compete at Master’s Nationals in Weightlifting for 2021).
