Meet The Speakers

Dr. Amanda Parsons
Dr. Amanda Parsons
Vice President, Care Management

Dr. Amanda Parsons amassed extensive experience in physician leadership and population health management before joining Healthfirst as the VP of Clinical Services overseeing Care Management (Long-term Care, D-SNP, Pediatrics, Complex Care/Rising Risk) and Clinical Eligibility. Prior that, she was the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of MetroPlus Health Plan where she oversaw care management (Medicaid/Medicare), Managed Long Term Care, Children’s Special Services and the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) programs. She was formerly VP of Community & Population Health at Montefiore Health System where she directed community interventions aimed at improving health and wellness of patients, staff, and communities. She also served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Health Care Access and Improvement at the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) where she was responsible for the Primary Care Information Project, Correctional Health Services, Primary Care Access and Planning.

She earned her M.D. and M.B.A from Columbia University.

Dr. Parsons has served on numerous boards and most recently was the Board Chair of VIP Community Services in the Bronx. She is a recipient of Crain’s 2015 “40 Under 40” award and 2019 “Notable Women in Health Care” award.

Liz Abenstein
Liz Abenstein
Vice President, Clinical Program Support
Liz is a healthcare leader with experience in strategic planning, process improvement, organizational redesign, and change management. She is passionate about making healthcare accessible and simple. In her over 7 years at Healthfirst, Liz has focused on building and deploying meaningful and efficient support to core Clinical and Operational areas. In this role she has led a variety of departments and initiatives. Notable examples include launching a Clinical Quality Audit team, developing a Clinical Technical Assistance Center which is designed to help Clinicians in their roles, and most recently, launching an in-field community-health worker role via the Field Care Coordinator team.
Elizabeth Martinez-Fernandez
Elizabeth Martinez-Fernandez
AVP, Clinical Eligibility

Elizabeth Martinez is a healthcare professional committed to serving the underserved. She’s a registered nurse by trade with over 16 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology as well as a Master’s in Nursing.

In working through the multiple facets of home care, she’s held various leadership positions in Lombardi programs, she has collaborated with startup certified home health agencies, as well as supported the interfacing of a network of license home care agencies among many others.

As a field nurse, she quickly realized that accessing quality care was not always feasible, especially for migrant populations, either because of a language barrier or just because of unawareness. This has motivated her to dedicate her lifetime as a clinician to doing her part to help make this process an easier and more accessible one.

Stella Pappas
Stella Pappas
VP Behavioral Health Services
Stella V. Pappas, LCSW-R, ACSW, is an essential part of the Healthfirst Clinical Department with primary responsibility for behavioral health operations. Ms. Pappas leads the Behavioral Health Department, providing oversight for the behavioral health care management and utilization management teams for all lines of business, all populations, and all products. Additionally, Ms. Pappas has held a variety of leadership positions in the hospital, behavioral healthcare, and managed care industries in New York City. Ms. Pappas received her Master of Social Work and Advanced Clinical Certificate from New York University’s School of Social Work.
