Earlier in my career, I was frustrated by never being considered for leadership positions beyond first level management. I would look at others who were promoted and be mystified as to how someone who lacked skills that I valued could be seen as better qualified. I came to realize that there were another set of skills I could not see or didn’t value that were critical in making that leap.
