As college students, it can be exhausting thinking about the looming decisions of having children and being able to balance that with our career aspirations. While it is an added stress, we both feel that we cannot step back and take the status quo in terms of gender norms in the workplace and home. We are here to stand up for working mothers now and to reshape workforce expectations so that other women like us can dream to have our ideal careers and families.
In this chat, we want you to walk away with:
Together, we are co-founders of Project Matriarchs, which we started as a way to support working mothers as a disproportionate burden of caretaking is often falling on them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are working to pair college students with families to ease some of this burden with the intentions of keeping moms in the workforce. As two rising sophomores at Stanford and Brown Universities, we are focused on highlighting this issue in younger generations in an effort to demand more from our employers now and in the future.
What incentivized you to begin this website?
How has Covid 19 disproportionately impacted women in the workforce and what long-term effects may this have?
How do I communicate my needs as a new mom to my employer?
Any recommendations for Contractors? I feel like I have less leverage and power than FTEs.
