My boss recently gave me a scathing review all based on character traits and work style. They noted many times it was not about quality or output, but “attitude” and “being a team player”. I lean into my ability to predict future problems/issues with strategies or ideas, and that is very much in contrast with the “let’s wing it” attitude of the supervisor. My response was “I’m sorry you have a problem with my personality”. I’m not sure how to navigate this line of criticism when I feel like it should be embraced as a value add.
