Meta’s Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). The eye tracking team within RL-R is working on research to enable eye tracking for everyone everywhere, which is key to enabling many groundbreaking experiences. In this role, you will join a team of software and research engineers to collaborate with research scientists, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and user experience designers. You will learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving. You will focus on applying machine learning and computer vision to eye tracking problems, developing technologies that will power future AR/VR devices.Together, we are going to build cutting-edge prototypes, technologies, and toolsets that can define a paradigm shift in how we interact with our surroundings. We invite you to step into the adventure of a lifetime, as we make science fiction real and change the world. Research Engineer, Eye Tracking (PhD) Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and evaluate Machine Learning and Computer Vision-based eye tracking models and systems.
- Work with software engineers, research scientists, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers to incorporate eye tracking models with demos, data collection systems, and other eye tracking systems.
- Create tools, infrastructure, and documentation to accelerate research.
- Collaborate with other research and engineering teams to identify gaps, build solutions, and transfer technology.
- Perform code reviews that improve software engineering quality.
- Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving.
- Experience with Python.
- Experience with a common machine learning framework, ex: PyTorch.
- Experience with Machine Learning Computer Vision.
- Experience reasoning about improving performance (speed) of Machine Learning systems.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
- Experience with C++.
- Experience with non-Machine Learning computer vision, ex: OpenCV.
- Experience working in AR/VR.
- Experience developing software in a research environment.
- Familiarity with optics, lasers, and sensors.
- Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
- Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
- Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
