The GNC Guidance Navigation and Control Group within Launch Vehicles Division is hiring for a Staff Engineer located in Chandler Arizona
Position Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for autopilot design and verification, including autopilot architecture, gain selection, filter design, and stability analysis. The candidate must also be capable of integrating the autopilot design into the flight software and testing the software using Software and Hardware-in-the-Loop (SIL and HIL) simulations.
Essential Functions
Developing the autopilot architecture, including development and evaluation of the control algorithms, guidance algorithms, and discrete filters.
Developing and maintaining the autopilot software and auto-sequencing code as well as the 6-DOF simulation software, including documenting, testing, and verification of hardware models (e.g., actuators, motors, etc.) and environmental models (e.g., wind, gravity, etc.).
Verification of requirements allocated to the GNC function.
Present work and technical findings to management, senior leadership, and customers through design reviews and program milestones (proposal efforts, technical reports, and formal customer presentations).
Support system-level testing of the flight software through SIL and HIL testing, including field testing.
Extensive experience with tactical weapon algorithm design and verification.
Experience designing/developing target state estimators.
Familiar with design of navigation system including sensors and software algorithms.
Detailed design knowledge of feedback control loops including propagation of all error sources.
Thorough understanding of guidance, navigation, and control design including estimation of unobservable quantities.
Analyze software logs to verify correct system behavior as part of a test or post-test evaluation.
Previous experience with fire control systems
Previous experience with endo/exo-atmospheric interceptors.
Supporting launch activities.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 14 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 12 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 9 related engineering experience
Active DoD Secret security clearance
Salary Range: $142,500 - $213,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
