We develop innovative solutions that keep our military members safe, connected, and informed. Our team has some of the most knowledgeable experts in the industry and work with all the most recent technologies in embedded software development. As a Principal Software Engineer in this organization, you will be involved in the development of state-of-the-art communications systems to support UAVs, fighter jets, aircraft carriers, and ground vehicles. Examples would include advanced satellite communications, cryptography and state-of-the-art embedded computing architectures. We build robust networks that implement low latency and high throughput communications that include anti-jamming capabilities, mobile adhoc features and IP connectivity. Within Collins Aerospace we work alongside multiple hardware, FPGA and systems teams in order to seamlessly embed our advanced technology into our communications product portfolio. Examples of these products range from high-frequency radios to secure, sophisticated software-defined radios that can enable pilots and soldiers to transfer data, voice and imagery over the air. We do a lot of work in C++, C, Python and embedded Linux so proficiency in these areas will help the candidate come up to speed quickly. Experience working in an Agile environment would also be preferred. This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A comprehensive relocation package is available to qualified applicants. Primary Responsibilities:
- Software development and integration role on complex multi-threaded embedded C and C++ product software code bases.
- Support the design and development of embedded software solutions and communications products
- Support project team activities related to the specification of requirements, software implementation, test case development, verification test execution, and certification support
- Mentor software developers in technical and process-related areas
- Contributing to key decision making for the successful development of applications across multiple product lines
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required. Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
- Software development and integration experience on complex multi-threaded embedded C and C++ product software code bases.
- Experience with standard full lifecycle software development practices and configuration management tools
- Knowledge and\or experience in communications systems and multi-threaded embedded application software engineering development and integration
- IP networking and networking protocol experience is desirable
- TDMA, mobile adhoc network (MANET) and waveform communication protocol experience is desirable
- Desire to successfully work in a team environment, establishing collaborative relationships with coworkers in person and through technology; experience working on an Agile team desirable
