Date Posted:2024-04-01 Country:United States of America Location:HIA32: Cedar Rapids, IA 400 Collins Rd NE , Cedar Rapids, IA, 52498-0505 USA Position Role Type:Onsite The Collins Aerospace, Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team in Cedar Rapids, IA is expanding due to increased demand for simulation training software that is derived from real-time aircraft operational flight programs and extended with ARINC-610 simulation standards and customer driven requirements. The retargeted simulation software models aircraft systems from low level data bus flows to high level peer to peer subsystem communication and is built on top of proprietary graphics drawing libraries and runtime executives. Resulting in high fidelity solutions that are optimized to range in use from Windows Desktop to Virtual Reality to certified Full-Flight Simulator applications. This position supports training devices, software, and systems from moderate to high complexity while leveraging the latest in PC high-performance computing, gaming and display technologies for use in training and familiarizing Flight Crews and Ground Crews in the use of various Collins aircraft avionics systems from Commercial airspace to Military theaters. We are looking for motivated individuals with a keen desire to create innovative solutions and contribute with little oversight, sound judgement, and an eye for continuous product improvement. This is fast-paced development that requires ownership, attention to detail, and teamwork skills that contribute to a positive and productive work environment. Development methodology is a hybrid of Spiral development and Agile planning and execution. We work directly with our customers to integrate and support our software in their training systems. Both domestic and international travel to customer sites and industry demonstrations may be needed. - Systems-Software integration & review, technical team lead, assist with bidding, planning, cadence, product ownership.
- Expert systems software development on a distributed engineering team that supports customers & occasionally travels.
- Collins Pro Line 21 & Fusion Avionics, HUD & PFCC Simulation Software Modeling & Development using Collins VISTA.
- Development in Microsoft Windows Visual Studio & Eclipse with Ada, C/C++/C#, Python & Matlab Simulink.
- Building & Debugging - real-time, multi-threaded applications, endian interoperability, distributed data marshalling.
- Troubleshooting - hardware-software systems integration, shared memory, Ethernet and Arinc communication.
- Effective written and spoken communication skills to aid in planning, measuring and progress reporting.
- Lead and contribute to all phases of systems-software life cycle development, deployment & support.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
