Overview

Do you enjoy turning data into meaningful information products to make a positive difference in the world? Are you the person others come to when they need ArcGIS help to transform data? If so, consider working at Esri to help build ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. The Living Atlas is the most extensive geospatial data collection in the world, is widely used across the ArcGIS platform, and is fast becoming the backbone of web GIS. As a data scientist for the team, you will be involved in building and creating new information products that leverage near real-time data sources, including information from satellites, weather models, and open data sources.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a small team to develop, publish, and maintain global datasets as cloud-based web services to support mapping and analysis
  • Integrate new data sources, update existing services, and innovate new methodologies for publishing and consuming Living Atlas services
  • Engineer workflows that improve data processing efficiency and effectiveness while creating content that helps promote more informed decision making within the GIS community
  • Investigate emerging trends and techniques for modeling live feed information to better serve the needs of the ArcGIS community
  • Prepare documentation, blogs, and white papers on analytic/publishing methods and trends
  • Team with customers such as NOAA, USDA, NCAR, NASA, ESA and other key content creating organizations to help incorporate their data into Living Atlas
  • Support Esri’s development teams to integrate Living Atlas services across the ArcGIS platform
Requirements
  • 1+ years of experience with high level programming languages such as Python or Java
  • 2+ years of experience with ArcGIS software, particularly geoprocessing tools in the data management, analysis, interoperability, spatial analyst, and statistical toolboxes
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to effectively document and present relevant details about the data behind Living Atlas services to users
  • Experience managing and analyzing large, complex datasets
  • Ability to design and implement production workflows for near real time data updates
  • Bachelor's or master's in data science, information technology, computer science, GIS, or related discipline
Recommended Qualifications
  • Experience working with Python and arcpy to automate geoprocessing workflows
  • Experience working with command line Windows and Unix environments
  • Experience with statistical software such as R, SAS, MATLAB, and more
  • Experience with ArcGIS raster and mosaic datasets

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$72,800-$124,800 USD
