This critical role within Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) sets the strategy and leads the creative development of world-class news and feature content that reaches 77,000 colleagues across the company to increase understanding of our business priorities and progress, reinforce our special culture, build community, and support the company’s senior leaders. This includes evolving our key communications channels, technology platforms and capabilities to enhance the colleague experience and ensure sound governance practices. This role is also responsible for developing strategies to communicate important business initiatives and developments, partnering closely with many colleagues across CA&C and the company. A thought leader in creative multimedia storytelling and building engagement with colleagues on digital platforms, this role has broad impact across Amex. Principal Responsibilities:
  • Leads the editorial team in Colleague Communications that manages company news and feature content on the corporate intranet, Slack channel and weekly e-newsletter:
    • Oversees the creation of daily content that drives understanding of the company’s growth strategies and progress while reinforcing critical aspects of our culture
    • Leads strategic planning to prioritize subject areas, evolve key themes and messages, and ensure an effective channel strategy to reach colleagues with differentiated content in their channel of choice
    • Provides thought leadership in testing and implementing fresh and creative multimedia storytelling approaches to increase colleague engagement
    • Shares best practices for storytelling and content development with colleagues across Corporate Affairs & Communications, and benchmarks best practices at peer companies to help assess and enhance our performance
  • Plays a critical role in developing our strategic roadmap to continually enhance the functionality and governance of the company’s intranet platform, The Square, working in close partnership with Technology and the Colleague Experience Group:
    • Evolves the corporate intranet’s design and capabilities to enhance the user experience and meet company objectives
    • Enhances rules and processes to ensure effective governance
    • Provides subject matter expertise and change management support for site owners and publishers
    • Engages with technology to resolve platform issues as they arise
  • Develops communications strategies and tactics that support key business initiatives, our colleague value proposition, and corporate social responsibility efforts, partnering closely with colleagues across CA&C and other business units.
  • Oversees the Colleague Communications data management practice to track colleague engagement with company content and obtain insights that shape editorial strategies.
  • Works closely with CA&C’s Newsroom and Social Media teams to drive collaboration and leverage content across internal and external communications.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Deep expertise in communication strategy, planning and execution, with a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and message development skills needed to develop clear, concise and highly creative content across multimedia formats, including video.
  • Ability to set the overarching editorial agenda while overseeing a complex and often-changing daily news calendar.
  • Outstanding strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to provide valued counsel to senior Amex executives.
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly learn colleague communications technology platforms and measurement tools.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to foster positive relationships across the company.
  • An effective people leader who sets a clear vision and supports the professional growth of their team members.
  • The ability to be flexible and quickly pivot on projects as needs or situations change.
  • Strong influencing skills to help drive successful outcomes.
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
