The Fair Lending Director role is part of a centralized team responsible for administering a comprehensive Fair Lending regulatory compliance program for American Express. The role is responsible for assisting the VP – Fair Lending in administering, coordinating, and continuing the enhancement of the Fair Lending program in the U.S., and for ensuring compliance with fair lending laws and regulations. Responsibilities include monitoring the day-to-day compliance activities, researching and responding to fair lending compliance questions, conducting fair lending risk assessments, coordinating and reviewing analysis results, and preparing management reporting as needed and appropriate.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Ensure an effective Fair Lending Risk Management Program (Program) that is appropriate for the size and complexity of the Bank's business practices and objectives;

  • Provide strategic oversight of the Bank's Program and partner with the VP – Fair Lending to create an annual plan for the Bank;

  • Assist the Bank in identifying fair lending risks and emerging issues applicable to their ongoing and proposed business activities;

  • Provide direction on the development, implementation, and oversight for the Bank's fair lending monitoring and testing programs including methodologies applied to conduct fair lending statistical analysis;

  • Lead team of individuals responsible for providing oversight over review of complaints alleging discrimination;

  • Communicate changes to pertinent fair lending laws and regulations and state laws as well as significant industry trends and partner with the Bank to implement or revise processes to address these changes (including new requirements as part of Dodd Frank Section 1071);

  • Develop and implement effective fair lending training for all relevant areas within the Bank;

  • Collaborate with the Bank on corrective action or remediation plans for identified compliance weaknesses and monitor the status of the remediation plans;

  • Prepare reporting for Senior Management and Board of Directors on Fair Lending Program activities and fair lending risk;

  • Support annual examinations of Fair Lending Program by various regulatory agencies;

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree (J.D or M.A. or above in Statistics) preferred.

  • At least five (5) years or more of progressive and demonstrated Fair Lending compliance experience in the financial services industry.

  • Deep regulatory knowledge of all Fair Lending regulations and requirements.

  • Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and support multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of all regulatory bodies that influence U.S. Fair Lending practices and general banking practices within the United States.

  • Sound experience in managing activity in U.S. lending, compliance, banking, regulatory examination or audit required.

  • Strong knowledge with statistical testing methods used to conduct fair lending statistical analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  •   Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to operate smoothly in a cross cultural, global environment will be important.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
