The company’s Corporate Affairs & Communications organization is seeking a communications and public relations professional as its new Director, Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) Communications. This person will be responsible for driving both the internal and external communications strategies that promote American Express’ reputation as a leader in credit and fraud risk management and showcases the company’s focus on innovation. 

 

As a member of the Corporate Communications team, this person will drive proactive media relations in support of American Express’ credit decisioning, fraud modeling, use of artificial intelligence, and other Credit & Fraud Risk-related innovations. They will also handle crisis communications as needed. This position will report to the Senior Vice President of Communications, B2B comms. 

 

How will you make an impact in this role?

  •      Support the company’s global digital innovation narrative by creating and implementing compelling thought leadership programs and proactive media campaigns.  

  •      Provide sound counsel and manage sensitive issues and reputational risks.  

  •      Lead colleague communications for the Credit and Fraud Risk team, which would include internal campaigns to raise awareness around the team’s work including direct support of the Chief Credit Officer.  

  •      Create internal and external communications content, including messaging, memos, presentations, newsroom posts, Slack and social posts, and stories for the company intranet (The Square). 

  •      Work with external partners including trade and advocacy groups and other corporations to manage the announcement of new programs, products and services. 

  •      Collaborate with senior leaders, communication colleagues and other cross-functional partners across the company. 

  •      Foster relationships with media and serve as spokesperson for the company. 

  •      Help oversee and manage public relations agencies. 

Minimum Qualifications

  •       7+ years of communications/public relations experience. 

  •       Experience working in either technology or finance/banking. 

  •       Experience with both internal and external communications.

  •       Excellent judgement and innate curiosity. 

  •       Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across functions and levels. 

  •       Excellent writing, editing, organizational and presentation skills. 

  •       Proven ability to translate technical content into language that is understandable by and compelling to target audiences.  

  •        Proven media relations experience, with the ability to source and place tech and innovation stories.

  •        Experience developing and implementing creative public relations and social media programs. 

  •        Strong project manager with ability to think independently, quickly, and apply good judgment. 

  •     Strategic problem solver with strong business acumen. 

  •       Ability to prioritize workload based on short- and long-term priorities. 

  •       Experience in managing public relations agencies and/or teams. 

     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Direct credit, fraud, and risk management experience. 

  • Communication experience at a publicly traded company. 

  • Established relationships with tech, security, and financial media.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
