About Global Financial Crimes

In Global Financial Crimes (GFC), you will play a critical role in identifying potentially suspicious activity, protecting vulnerable individuals, and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system.  GFC coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm's financial crime prevention efforts, including governance, oversight and execution of the Firm's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Anti-Corruption and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs.

As part of Morgan Stanley’s ongoing commitment to prevent and detect financial crimes – including money laundering, terrorist financing, economic sanctions, and bribery/corruption – the Firm has adopted a comprehensive, risk-based program to ensure compliance with counter- terrorism and AML laws, rules, regulations.

The successful candidate will work closely with the GFC Testing team members, business unit and applicable GFC teams to plan and execute testing on financial crime-related processes performed by groups outside of GFC, as well as at third-party vendors.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development, implementation and execution of risk-based compliance testing to review and assess the design adequacy and operational effectiveness of the Firm’s financial crimes procedures, processes and controls.
  • Define test scope and design specific testing steps for each applicable test in the annual plan.
  • Manage the execution of tests and review work product completed by team members, and prepare written reports
  • Communicate test results, present identified issues to the business, operations and GFC management, and work with the business and other stakeholders to develop corrective action plans to remediate findings
  • Track status of corrective action plan
  • Maintain detailed and organized documentation of work products, as required by applicable policies and procedures
  • Communicate and coordinate with other professionals in the organization, including GFC advisory teams, other Compliance Monitoring and Testing Groups and Internal Audit
  • Remain current on industry rules, regulations and best practices to help ensure that the testing program meets regulatory standards

What We’re Looking for in You

Experience

  •  8+ years of relevant work experience in a financial institution, consulting firm or equivalent, demonstrating experience in financial crimes, audit, assurance or compliance testing.
  • Have a degree from an accredited university degree or equivalent and demonstrate strong academic credentials
  • Previous demonstrable experience of managing and developing junior staff
  • Knowledge of what constitutes an effective Compliance Framework and best practice

Knowledge

  • Understanding of financial crimes requirements and framework  AML / KYC
  • Understanding of the audit and testing processes and approaches
  • Should be familiar with the risk and control framework at a financial institutions
  • Should exhibit comfort working with technology and the ability to learn and display proficiency on technical systems and programs.
  • Proficient with MS Office

  • Developed investigative skills: inquiry and analysis, interviewing, testing and organization
  • Effective written communication skills: able to describe complex issues accurately and succinctly
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to research and resolve issues independently while working across teams to acquire information
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple tests with different individuals at the same time
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with the skills to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to execute tasks within tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with colleagues of all levels of seniority across regions and business units; able to question and challenge established processes
  • Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent certification/license – or certification within first 15 months of employment

Expected base pay rates for the role in Baltimore will be between $105,000 and $170,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
