11The Team: You will be part of the Cloud Engineering team of S&P Dow Jones, used by tens of thousands of users globally. The team is responsible for ensuring cloud solutions that deliver Greater Reliability & Resilience, High Performance, High Availability and Scalability.
The Impact: You will utilize your technical knowledge and analytical skills in architecting and optimizing cloud infrastructure, standardizing technology stack for cloud & data centers, implementing cloud service catalog and service governance solutions, and driving implementation of our cloud first strategy and cloud adoption in partnership with development & business stakeholders.

The role of a Cloud Finance Operations (FinOps) Business Analyst is pivotal in shaping the financial efficiency of the cloud team. By managing vendor contracts, tracking spend, and performing detailed cloud consumption and cost analyses, this role enables the cloud team to make informed decisions about resource allocation and usage. This not only helps in optimizing costs but also aids in strategic planning and forecasting. Furthermore, by maintaining an inventory of software licenses and tracking hardware warranties, the FinOps Business Analyst ensures that the cloud team has the necessary tools and resources to function effectively. Overall, this role significantly contributes to the financial health and operational efficiency of the cloud team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage vendor contract renewals, track vendor service delivery, and manage vendor spend on software and licenses.
- Perform Purchase Request (PR) submissions, track invoice approvals, and estimate budgets.
- Maintain an inventory of software licenses and track hardware warranty renewals.
- Perform cloud consumption analysis, plan Cloud Cost Allocation Reports (CFAR), and perform Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis for applications.
- Track consultant time and headcount.
- Conduct product profitability analysis to ensure the financial success of products.
- Monitoring and analyzing the usage of cloud resources in an organization. Help understand which services are being used, by whom, and to what extent. Based on the analysis provide insights into patterns and trends, identify inefficiencies, and help forecast future usage and costs.
- Cloud Cost Allocation Reports (CFAR) for tracking and allocating cloud costs back to specific teams or projects within an organization. Identifying which resources are being used by which parts of the organization, and then attributing the costs accordingly.
- Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Analysis for Applications calculating the total cost of an application over its entire lifecycle, from development and deployment to maintenance and support. Review cloud costs related to cloud resources, such as compute, storage, and network usage, as well as indirect costs like management, security, and compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experience.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a cloud (AWS preferred) engineering or operations role with a cost optimization focus.
- Experience in finance, business operations, technology, or cloud program management is valuable.
- Cloud Certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP), AWS Architect Certified can be advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and cost efficiency.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and services.
- Experience in vendor management and contract negotiation.
- Proficiency in financial forecasting and risk analysis.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise between different teams.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Required Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with cloud cost management tools.
- Familiarity with data query languages (SQL, etc.) and data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
- Strong understanding of cloud billing and cost management tools.
- Excellent analytical and data visualization skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and statistical analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
